I agree with your take here - 8-10K is prominent on this mic. It's not unbalanced though because it actually has SUCH a nice low end. But definitely a different sonic color than something voiced a little darker. I actually wish that between the contour and drive, we could go from current REDD settings to something darker, more smokey and vintage. It always seems to retain the airy character regardless of those settings. Not complaining - the REDD is a masterpiece. Including the preamp in the mic is brilliant. I just wish I had the reds, oranges, and yellows to paint with using it, where it feels like the REDD starts with the greens and above (does that make sense?).

The platinum sputtered capsule is SO cool, and a huge part of the sound. But I'd love to hear some crazy gearspace nut drop and M7, K47 or C37 style capsule into it to see if that offers a different side of the sonic spectrum. I'm sure Wade did that already during testing, but my curious ears still wanna hear it hahha.

I had a C800G for 5 years and I still own the REDD. A C800G sounded decent with a Chandler Redd.47 preamp. A GML was also nice. I am pretty sure your C800G will behave differently with another preamp.

But for me the C800G is just overpriced. Those tiny differences are not worth talking about. The Redd.Mic is the best workhorse mic I have ever seen. Redd.Mic (-18dB setting) in a Manley Slam is what I prefer most of the time.

Yeah the Redd is pretty incredible. I'm still not going to sell my c800g haha I like to keep it around.

A song in the style of Pharrell/Justin Timberlake/N.e.r.d, perfect for Tik Tok. I was mumbling a lot of the vocals because I was coming up with the verses lyrics on the spot.

A random thought crossed my mind this morning and got me thinking. A brighter mic covering the common 251/C800G realm and a less bright or more mid centric mic covering the common U47/U67 realm probably covers 75%-80% (ballpark guess) of most vocal recording applications today outside of ribbons and dynamics.

Chandler has arguably one of if not the best original "brighter mic" designs with the Chandler REDD for the modern era, and has already implemented multi-voicing switches with their other mics. Would it not be possible to do something similar with a new tube mic? Similar to how the Type L borrows from the TG Mic, could there be a similar model that instead borrows from the REDD but is instead a multi-circuit tube mic with that same great platinum capsule? I feel like that would be a no-brainer instant buy for a lot of folks who'd want a one and done mic. I know other companies have tried, but the tuning, character, and overall sound of the Chandler mics seem to be more well praised across the board from what I've seen.

There's a good amount of effects on the vocals, a doubler, autotune, and the MC77 and rvox and Sybil on the chain, no EQ though.

They're pretty complimentary in my opinion. I've owned both, still have the Chandler and plan to get the Soyuz again some time in the future

is the Mojave 1000 in the same league as the soyuz 017 tube and redd 47 mic?

If you can afford it I'd choose the Redd microphone, especially if you like bright mics.

If you like to fiddle with the EQ and want to start with a darker mic, the Soyuz is the choice.

In the UA Sphere microphone, there's a pretty convincing emulation of the Soyuz Tube. It's I'd say 85-90% there, if you're interested. but you do need Apollo to run it.

Yes the quality is really decent on the Mojave. If you want something in between the Soyuz and the Redd in terms of sound, the Mojave sits in the middle. The Mojave will work on more sources, and the Soyuz being a close second, but the low mids can be a bit much on the Soyuz. The Soyuz is the highest quality made microphone in my opinion, because they used to make military equipment (who knows they still might).
