Do you have any negatives? Worth the hi price tag??

I have used the Trinnov system in various rooms over the years. Will definitely make a huge difference.

But there is no substitute for proper acoustical treatment. A bad room will sound better - a good room will sound brilliant. So make the room sound as good as possible before you let the Trinnov add the icing on the cake.

There is however one thing worth mentioning: A truly flat response (that the Trinnov aims at by default) is not what you will normally encounter in most listening situations. So I think the best practice is to first use the calibration to even out the anomalies - and then use the systems ability to add a manually adjusted target curve on top of that (just to bring the overall response more in accord with "real life system response"). And this would normally mean adding some low end and rolling the top end slightly off.

That being said - I love the system and just purchased one of the new D-Mon systems after having used the original ST1 for years.

I have already treated my room just looking to fix a bit of the low end

I've been working with a ST2 system for about 6 weeks. I've always tuned my rooms using SMAART and the Lake Technologies systems (now Lab Gruppen owns the technology).....at any rate, this Trinnov system is ridiculous. It does what would take me several hours and actually does more...in a matter of minutes.

It's ability to bring everything in phase (yes, I said phase) and have multiple listening positions is really amazing. It does add a bit of latency, so if you're ever overdubbing anything without headphones, you might want to bypass the system while the talent is overdubbing. I'm running a 512 buffer at 96K word clock sync to my trinity/atomic. The latency is slightly noticeable. If you drop the buffer, the latency isn't very noticeable at all, but I occasionally have a quick drop out at the 256 buffer....I'm assuming the processor isn't quite keeping up from time to time?

The converters are first rate, and you can run digital in and out as well. There are so many things that I love about it...so, I'll just add:

The ability to add a target curve to listen to exactly how you want to listen, is/was the biggest selling point for me. Not being "locked" to a prescribed curve. Totally customizable. It's works flawlessly…and finally, if you're running separate subs, it will time align and phase align them perfectly. Ridiculous.

The latency thing scares me a bit

i´ve been working with a trinnov for a few years now, never noticed latency problems! one thing i have noticed though: slower transient response. either way: wouldn´t want to work without it ever again, it´s made my mixes better by a long shot. demo it if you can, it´s really worth it!

Do you guys have any problems tracking with the add latency?
How hard is it to set up?

Latency is dependent on buffer setting - and there is also a "runtime" mode that will display less info but reduce latency.
I have typically seen figures in the 15-20ms bracket. Not a problem while mixing. But problematic if you are tracking in the control room. In that case I just bypass the processing.

I would not say it is hard - but it definitely takes time to grasp the capabilities of the unit and to perform the calibration. There are aspects of both the documentation and the SW interface that is ripe for improvement - but on the other hand: The results you get will leave you sufficently happy to bear with both...

Before you invest that heavily, check out Dirac Live too. There's a fully functional free 30 days trial so you've got nothing to loose.

Anything else that that can compete with trinnov??

I had chance to try the Deqx hdp4 in a friend's studio. It seems to be capable of everything Trinnov can achieve. The results were quite amazing. A comparison with the Trinnov would be indeed interesting.

Can't comment on how these compare to Trinnov, as I haven't tested Trinnov. But I've experimented with many different software solutions, of which Dirac Live jointly gave the best results. The only other one that is on par soundwise to my ears is the free programm PORC (Python open room correction), which I am using to very satisfying effect. It needs a big effort to get used to though. It has no GUI, instead you program it using a command window. You'll have to bite through the initial setup process and read about the different commands. It's well worth it though. If you are prepared to invest some time, sweat, and tears you can get room correction on the level of Dirac live (which is without a doubt amongst the best you can get with software) in a freeware program.

Yes the mini dap works great, but when i tried it, they had a 10db drop of signal, but i think they fixed it.

But the trinnov is brilliant!!!

well, if is about sound, you may want to check Accurate, Bob Katz say is the best he tried and that the sound is better than Trinnov... yes you need a computer to run it..so there you go...

Real Sound Labs Coneq is definitely a contender with the Trinnov. Does a great job as well. Software and hardware versions available.

anybody ever tried some different settings in the advanced dsp tab? ours is running in "lowend only" mode with our trident hg3....didn't really like the side-effects of the fullband phase correction although the supertight phantom middle was quite interesting

I can't compare with a Trinnov as I don't have one, but I've been using acourate for a few months now and it made a big difference in my room. It corrected the phase problems I had in the low end. The details and stereo image are a lot better now. It is not the most user friendly software to use and you will need to pass some time tweeking the results but Uli, the wizard behind it, is really quick to answer any questions. The user community is also quite helpful.

You will need a plugin to run the convolution file it creates. It also adds a delay.
Really worth a try considering the price difference with a trinnov system.

We sold a number of ConEq hardware units with great success.
They had a bit of a bumpy sales and support situation here in the US. I believe there is neither sales or service support any longer here

Been using the Tinnov for over a year now and I absolute love it, and would never not want it on while mixing or mastering. While tracking I simply turn it off.

Of course there are some slight sonic negatives when using DSP (and the added AD DA stages) to correct your room, but the benefits with Trinnov are astonishing IMO and thus far outweighs the negatives.

The phase coherency alone is worth the price of admission, but the the frequency response, time delay and volume adjustments really put my monitors into a far more dependable relationship with my room, especially while mixing and mastering.

I have a call into Trinnov, but what with the horrors in Paris and the fact of the weekend, I won't hear back tomorrow at the earliest and I want to be respectful and not hound the good people at Trinnov. Just wondered if any of you have seen this and know how to solve it. Crowdsourcing, baby.

Odd, what I would do is go into the Avid I/O setup window and count the analog inputs until you get the digital I/O and then pray the trinnov borrowed the same ordering.

BTW, this is a DMON hooked up to an Avid Omni? Confused as to why its showing Omni in the first place?
