We've had 10 or 12 sets of Genelecs of various types in our studios and none have had any issue with hiss. I'm surprised to hear about it. In a quiet environment, if leaning way in, we can hear it in some instances but it's by no means affecting our work. Is this a "problem" or just something to discuss?

8361A user here. I go from Symphony I/O MkII AES OUT directly to the Genelec. No hiss. Previously I had used analog in, from the speaker out of X-Desk. That might have had some hiss, depending on how out loud it was.

Same. I have to get 6 inches away and the room needs to be completely quiet for me to hear any kind of noise whatsoever and the noise I hear is extremely faint.

So I was right after all (my practical logic).
To be honest, I would be very surprised if at least someone made Full Amplifier Control (and Genelec is no exception).

Conclusion: it means that only by reducing the gain on the amplifier of the rear Physical knob - you can completely "Reduce Noise/Hiss" of these monitors. This is logical. I thought so.
The only "hiccup" remains with Calibration.
If you calibrate in the state of the monitor (out of the box) - then how can you then reduce the amplifier with the physical knob? (Because the monitors will be standing Tight to the Wall). And if you turn them / move them away - then the entire calibration will become irrelevant.
And if you immediately make the amplifier itself Quieter - then the Test signals - which are sewn into the monitors, will be reproduced Quieter during calibration (than they are supposed to for the Test). And this is a "problem".

Most likely yes - a problem of a certain nature. There are many people who are very sensitive to high/super high frequencies (and I am no exception). I am interested in buying two Genelec 8351B + subwoofer (for Stereo control), as well as one Genelec 8341A + subwoofer (for true Mono control).
And I can only work and concentrate in Total Silence.

But- (as I did before), I see the solution in Physical attenuation with the knob on the Amplifier, on the back of the monitor. It always works for me (and others).

Again. The rear "physical" knob does nothing with the monitors being controlled by GLM, atleast on my 8341:s.

As I said earlier, I was probably mistaken about where the gain control happens, when running AES, there's a VERY slight hiss that doesn't change depending on GLM volume. When I tested these things way earlier and noticed a change, that was probably due to analog input with some noise of its own.

However, i'm still thinking the dip:s and "physical" control alters volume in the exact same way as GLM. If GLM doesn't control amplifier gain, then the dips/knob doesn't either. This is consistent with the manual, saying that for the rear panel controls to work, the speaker must not have GLM network connected, and the dip for stored GLM profile should be off.

I have Hiss!

I don’t have hiss. My feed to 8341s is analog, via a custom Pueblo Audio distribution amp. My 8341s, and everything else in my studio are plugged into high quality power sources, the 8341s to a SurgeX Model SA-1810.

Later today, I’ll do what I believe is a better measure, the measure of room sound in my listening position via GLM and I would be very interested to see measurements from other users.

Edit (GLM measurements):
42 to 47 dBSPL @ listening position which is 39" from 8341s, most of the noise, which I suspect is very minimal for studios, is from (1) a PC built specifically for audio, positioned 48" below my desktop and 30" to my right, housed in a Mixing Table Walnut rack, and (2) a Neve 5060 on my desktop, both the PC and 5060 have fans.

Why would you assume that there's noise in our studios but we're just not hearing it? When I say there is no noise there is no noise and this is verified by a large group of engineers with very good hearing. You either have something contributing to the noise floor or you're being overly sensitive to a none-issue.

It's such an odd cause to fight for. Move on.

I did NOT write anything about the fact that there is Noise in your studio.
I wrote (and tried to understand) ONLY about the Noise from the monitors. And I also wrote in plain text that there is no noise in my studio - and I can hear any "quiet" noise from a long distance. For this reason, I took all the computers and analog devices with built-in fans to an adjacent isolated room. Complete silence is simply extremely important to me.
This is what I wrote to you. And I am not the only one.

I studied the information on the Genelec website, as well as the graphs of the three models (see screenshots). Based on the graphs, I see that the 31 model is much more "linear" in contrast to the 41 model (which obviously has an "inflated" lower range - which is why the frequency response "bends" across the entire spectrum - up to the highest frequencies)
The 51 model looks a little better than the 31 model, and much better than the 41 model.
The 51 model also shows the best harmonic distortion.

For the main control, I definitely plan to take the 51 model + subwoofer.
But I also need one MONO monitor (for Mono control / close control). And here I have a question - is it worth taking the 41 model - if the 31 model has much "smoother" graphics (considering that I will have a 60 model subwoofer)?

2) The "Harmonic Distortion" graph shows the effect of two modes - "On" and "Off".
when the On position - the diagram is incredibly good. But at the same time, the delay increases to 7.5 ms.
Tell me - who uses the On mode? Have you compared the sound / calibration - Before / After switching on with the linear phase mode? What are your practical opinions on this function? Which mode did you prefer to stay and work on?
