I'm interested too; spotted them in few online studio tours. The design is new/innovative and allows for a smaller body size and wide sweet-spot.

The larger model (8351) in the series came out first when the thread was started. But later (more recently) in the thread there are posts about the 8341 (and the even smaller 8331).

I've been using a pair 0f 8341's since last September, from the first production run. You won't find a better pair of speakers out there. I had a pair of much larger and more powerful 8260's and a Genelec 7060 sub, and these have replaced that. The biggest difference between the earlier 8351's and these (also the 8331's) that is not discussed enough is that the smaller and newer 2 monitors allow for ULTRA NEARFIELD monitoring at distance of even 1 foot away!!!! the 8341's give away very little to the 8351's for the nearly 1000$ price difference. The power delivery and imaging is so clean, that you will very often not realise how Loud you're monitoring till you step away for a bit. Also they have a very wide sweet spot.

If these are ultra near field monitor does that mean I can work at lower volumes and still get that boom effect ?

Appreciate the quick response brother. I’m up here in Canada and unfortunately there’s no retailer in town that has these on shelf for sampling. Their just to expensive. I usually work at 85 dB on focal trio 6b. Would you say the 8341 sounds just as good at lower dB ? And how’s he bass on this thing?

Yes. They are consistent in character at any level, and they have plenty of low end. Pinpoint accurate even at really soft monitoring levels.

Absolutely love mine. They are a dream to work with.

(My opinion) Massively overpriced and not much bass for the price.

Properly set up the bass is excellent. I have a Genelec sub as well but more often than not I have it switched off unless I am working specifically on the low end. If you use the Genelec DSP prog to match your room you get fantastic bass.

The thing about the 8341s that is great is that the timing of the bass is so good - it is so controlled and so tight!

If you want to dial in a bit more either on the back or using the dsp that is easily done.

You definitely heard them setup totally wrong or the room was a disaster. You are at any time welcome to my studio to experience totally different situation. 8341 have superb low end.

I think that may have been a problem, yes. However, the Genelec 8350 sounded better (for less money) at the same spot.

I think it sholdn't be the case. While 8350 should have more extended low end and still be great speakers, 8341s should sound marginally better. Wrong position and room can completely change the perception, but having both set up in a good room it really is instantly obvious what The Ones are all about.

I will say that the speakers together with the GLM bundle are certainly interesting and -- full disclosure -- I am looking to buy a pair of 8350s (just not for the price Genelec has in mind).

But the (new) price for all of the ones is just too high IMHO.

I have the 8341 x 2 + 7360 x 2 in my living room.

The 8350 is an excellent monitor, but the 8431 is substantially more pleasant (not marginally so). The coaxial architecture has yielded an astounding sound. Once I was exposed to it, I couldn’t get anything else. Worth the money? Invariably, each person answers that for their own. But the R&D and technology put in the product should be appreciated no matter what.

They can serve as “micto” field monitors, so close you can bring them to you. However, in that scenario, I’d opt for the 8331. In fact, I have 8331 x 2 + 7350 hooked up to my workstation where the listening distance is 1 meter. Their footprint is very small, but the sound field they generate is optimal; the 8431 is a bit of an overkill. Personal preferences of course.

i just order them a pair of 8341 + GLM kit yesteday. Hopfully they are better then my focal trio6 be that are not room calibrated

I'm guessing your discount was from a used pair of monitors? If not, I'd love to know how you got such a big discount.

No, brand new, smacking fresh….I simply got lucked out: a local distributor had a 15 years anniversary and every second items was 50% off. I still can't believe it...

Wow! That's unbelievable! I was told that the Genelec SAM series was price-locked, but good for you! What a deal!

just got the 8341 today... haven’t had time to calibrate them with the GLM software kit yet but it’s been 1 hour now switching back and forth with both monitors.. right off the bat from default setting on both speakers the focal sounded a bit more clear in the higher frequencies. 8341 midrange and lower end sounds more tight then the focals. I’m starting to think if the focals were professionally calibrated, they would sound better then the 8341. However I did find the 8341 having a more pleasing sound while the focals make you work harder to make them sound good while mixing. Will update soon when I calibrate the system with GLM software.

In my systems, the GLM made a significant sonic difference. So yes, please share after your rig is calibrated.

Prefer them to 8260 and 8351, best pro monitors I've ever used. Insane imaging, depth and headroom for the size.

Hey dude been busy working but to follow up on the 8341.. Their amazing for their size and weight considering the Focals are 44lbs vs 22 pounds on the 8341. I wouldnt say their better then the Focal trios but their not worse either. After using the GLM kit the sound got laser pin point accuracy. I am sure the Focals can be the same or better if Professionally calibrated.. Alot of guys buy third party plugins to calibrate their speakers which still works but GLM was designed by Genelec for their speakers and you can easily intergate their subs in your setup.. its a no brainer. I still think the Berylllium tweeter on the Focal trios are better then then the 8341 if not best on the market though its very toxic and easily damaged.

They would not be better even when calibrated. You can calibrate frequency response, but you cannot delay individual drivers and adjust the phase coherence. Even with calibration the Trios will never produce this tight pin point image. I tried them extensively.

Random question, but do most of you buy these on credit cards or do you seriously make enough money to just buy them with cash? I’m a professional mixer and I can’t afford these.

I’m full time self employed as a sound designer, composer and producer. I earn enough to pay the bills and have a good life, but it’s not making me rich by any stretch of the imagination. Buying a pair of monitors for €5000+ is something I absolutely can’t do right now if I wanted to. And I don’t use Creditcards to fund stuff if I don’t have the funds.

I have a Pair coming in soon to replace my 8040s (8341s) The 8040s will be my touring speakers I ordered the Genelec soft-case for them. I had a smaller pair I would take with me everywhere.

Once you go Genelec you never go back. I have several pairs, every room has Genelecs they just work so well. Looking forward to trying out the 8341s and see how they compare.
