i have bought an Ibanez SDR 1000. The Guy sold it to me as working unit. It arrived very bad packaged... So maybe something happened while it was transported to me. Anyway the Problem with the unit is as follow.

If i turn the unit on the led flashes. So it gets power. But the Display shows no sign. I checked the cabling from the Display, this seems to be fine. I tried to push the buttons on the Frontpanel so that the LED should go on and off but no sign on the Frontpanel. It looks like the Frontpanel gets no power... then i tried to measure the Voltage on the Voltage regulators. But the Voltage regulator shows no Voltage... I am not sure, but i would think that the voltage regulators have no Input or are defective... The problem is that the LED on the Input Meter Flashes each time i turn the Unit on and Off. Any Ideas how i could find out what is wrong with this unit?

I also resoldered all the soldering to be sure that no soldering is broken at the transport.

Is it an SDR1000+ ?

does it make a difference? or why do you ask?

i found a defective diode on the board of the ibanez. the diode is very small i cant read whats on it. i think it is 783 or 7b3. maybe someone of you guys can tell me which diode this could be?

I was wondering if it was just a software update that made it a + model over a standard model. The + model has the same patches/algorithms as the Sony MU-R201 I believe, or maybe the non plus model is the same as the 201 and the + has extra?.
Anyway, I think they are a very nice sounding box.

Hope you get it fixed.Check for hairline cracks in the PCB if you change parts and it still doesn't work.Those light brown single sided pcb's are very susceptible to shock when knocked or dropped(If it has a brown single sided pcb?)

When you're troubleshooting it, note that there's a relay that connects the inputs directly to the outputs, bypassing all electronics. It will pass audio even when unplugged.

Also, does anyone know if the EPROMs for the + version are available anywhere? It looks like a pain to upgrade as the ROMs are soldered to the board, at least in mine.

I've got the exact same problem: Bought the SDR1000 and the display didn't work. Did you find any solution to the problem. Can it be fixed?

i bought another one. mine was dead it did not turn on....

My SDR 1000 that I have had since the 80’s is exhibiting the exact same symptoms. Short flash of light when power is applied then nothing. I really hope I can figure this out, the SDR 1000 is a gem and we need to save every single one we can. ?

Tell me about it! I bought four dead ones. Got two back to life and they sound awesome. Have a MU-R201 incoming and have started working on the other two dead SDRs.
I wanna connect them all together for some humongous verbs LOL

There are a lot of things that can go awry on these units... Mostly power supply related issues and those dreaded buss bars.

On top of that, there is an overly complex regulator circuit (current sink) made of some rare transistors... It's a pain in the ass; if one goes bad it takes the other three down with it..
I've already blown a few transistors repairing that part of the circuit!

It sounds like I got lucky on mine. I grabbed it locally for almost nothing since it worked intermittently, but it turned out to only be bad connections from a corroded IDC connector or something I just needed to clean up.

Having all those SDR's, did you by any chance plan to pull firmware from the Sony you're getting? I can't remember if it was only the "plus" version of the Ibanez, but I seem to remember that being the main difference between them and the regular 1000, and it included much better sounds and full remote capability for the rear port. (with as much as you've messed with these, I'd imagine you know a lot more about that )

Please post if you try any of that. I think others online were looking for that EPROM dump as well.
