Well I have never tried the M model... but from what I have read the M model is the same as the T but with the addition of a phasor circuit. So essentially I have played the M model... because the truth is that a phasor circuit isn't going to change the physical build, ya know...
If you really feel dead set on that sound, ask somebody on youtube with a T model to run it through a phase 90 or something... see what kind of sound turns up.
but the T (and likely M) pianets have a pretty muddy sound. The Rhodes and Wurli both have a far more flexible/ crystal clear sound.
My buddies Pianet-when he first got it he changed out some of the rubber pads and it brightened the sound a bit. BUT it still couldn't TOUCH my Rhodes.
They are just better. I don't know how better to explain. If you could FIND an M model.. and being that they are rare I am sure they would go for MUCH more than a Rhodes... and you had it next to a Rhodes.. then you would hear what I am talking about. It really is a different class of instrument. Not to bash the pianet, it's great for what it does.. but the Rhodes is a RHODES man. It's THE electric piano sound, along with the Wurli. chk this song:
YouTube - The Beatles - You Like Me Too Much (Stereo) (Remastered)
sounds kinda like a wurli in the song. I'll tell you though. same as Rhodes... Wurli is just a freaking Wurli. It's like with guitars... They did the Strat and the Les Paul... and those are THE guitars. Anything that tries to be both a Strat and a LP will FAIL at BOTH. You can't BE both. That's what the Pianet sounds like... somewhere stuck between the Rhodes and Wurli and not happy because of it.
Take the Hohner Clavinet, though... NOTHING sounds like the Clavi.. and the Clavi stands up well because of it! And look at the price a Clavi will fetch.. people LOVE the sound of the Clavi and for a reason.. They love it because Stevie wonder sound ****ing BAD.
I'd say save a hundred or two more and get yourself a Rhodes.
BTW... one more thing about these 3 machines. To me the action of the pianet ALSO is inferior. It feels kind of like the action on an old organ. Springy! The Rhodes's I have played have all had pretty heavy action. Actually a bit heavier than a Piano! I used to bruise my fingers playing shows on my rhodes (but I play pretty hard man!). And my Wurli has amazing action. It gives nicely... not to stiff. I swear it man. If you have all 3 side by side... you will forget the Pianet is there. They are light, they sound pretty cool.. and that's the end of the story.
