The sound path in Mopho is purely analog too....only the LFOs, the envelopes and the sequencer are digital (they have nothing to do with the signal path).

DCO is a digitally controlled, ANALOG OSCILLATOR. Forget that nonsense about VCOs VS DCOs. They are both analog oscillators and both can sound thinner or fatter, colder or warmer etc... Read some info about your subject before posting negative comments about a synth....it helps all the readers.

I'm not a modular guy... and really what interests me is a trig-able ENV more so than the filter...

How is a small side company online that sells mod kits that barely anyone knows about, brilliant marketing?

I kind of agree that its like a prototype for Korg and I think they'll come out with something next based off of it. I'm not sure I agree that the small group of ppl that do mods on theirs helps Korg in any way though. If they sold the mod kits themselves they would make a lot more money. And if they just included midi in the product in the first place, they could probably sell them for 3X the price, spend 1/4 of that extra cost in supplies/labor, and still sell at a rock bottom price overall compared to any other analog synth out there.

For people updating: Feed it a HOT ass signal, I ended up using the headphone outs on my mixer cranked way up. Very cool update though..

And as far as the "Korg never meant for it to have midi" comment, It has a full midi implementation thats programmed into the firmware by Korg. Drums work on Channel 10 per GM spec, all controls send midi CCs (albeit slowly), LFO parameters have CCs assigned to them, and even the tempo light blinks to the midi clock. I have mine midi'd up and it works exactly like any midi device should. The only thing it lacks is an midi port and optocoupler, $5 dollars in parts. The real question is why they left it out since the work has already been done.

Has anyone (shponglefan, altitude909, etc) had any luck viewing the PDF manuals that come with Korg's update download?

I dl'd it so I could read the manual, because I would like to know the specifics of the new "pattern memory" feature. But the file "can not be opened" by my laptop.

Is it just me or is there something wrong with those files? Really like to get some more information on "pattern memory" with the Monotribe.

No problems here opening the PDFs, what are you using to open it? they came in the archive so I cant imagine only the PDFs would be corrupt and not the archive itself

My comment wasn't intended to be "negative". I own both, Mopho and Monotribe and I really love them for what they are.
I never said that a VCO is better or not than a DCO it's just about the fact that they are different.
VCO are unstable by essence while DCO are always stable (no frequency drift). So, for me a VCO is more analog and more organic than a DCO this is why you have a "Osc Slop" parameter on the Mopho, to simulate the natural instability of a VCO with a DCO ;-) (Mopho Manual v1.2 page 16)

In conclusion, I don't say that VCO's are better than DCO's I just say that they are different and that the natural behaviour of a VCO is more analog than the behaviour of a DCO.

Its if you push Gate Time + Step (2,3,4) You can kill all sequence data, only synth, or only drums or get it back.

And the on/off functions when pressing gate time + Step 5-8 (S&H, 16 Step, etc)

Thats basically what they mean. Says so in the pdf that came with the update. No additional "storage" (except the 16 step feature...).

I just bought one today, I honestly can't remember when the last time was that I had this much fun with such an AWESOME sounding little thing! Unreal! Having the Elektron Machinedrum was a big benefit, what with simply adding a GND machine with an Impulse, sending that to the SYNC IN on the Monotribe, taking the OUTPUT on the Monotribe and routing it into one of the machinedrums INPUT machines, and voila, "perfect" (as far as midi goes at least) sync from within my daw. Now if you know the Moogerfooger MF-107, you can pretty much figure out what I did next :-P

I sync mine to my DS10 for some analog digital interacial action. Got the idea from a great wee youtube vid. Means you can syncopate the steps anyway you like, add swing and such.
The updates great and all, but imo the most useful bit is the drumroll - makes the hats really work for me.
