Probably because of the high starting bid. Lower starting bids attract more attention and thus usually end with higher amounts.

Well you might need to change a few resistors to get a full $1K range - but having real-time rotary control over market value is pretty useful. Sometime you want the cheap sound, but its nice to be able to dial in just the right amount of price gouge.

The part about it being compatible with "hip software" cracked me up.

There was a jupiter 8 going for $7,600 with $200 shipping charge. It has a huge dent on the top. There are jupiters going for far less in way better condition.

The only thing this does is contribute to the ever growing prices of vintage gear.

I am always seeing really high shipping rates on overpriced gear. $200 for continental US shipping seems pretty high to me. I have never shipped a large synth across a few states,just received one. Does it actually cost this much to ship one with a standard shipping time and without shipping insurance?

I asked the seller and got an actual reply, so rather than leave it the way it is, here's the answer:

"Well technically we bought it painted already. Got it a little cheaper (another studio had bought it new right before going bankrupt). It's front being painted meant that the logo wouldn't be visible in photos, or to perspective clients (who usually don't go digging around the back of a rack). We had a pretty strict sponsorship with an electronics company at the time. They gave us a little trouble about what gear we displayed in photos. At any extent the keyboard is labeled and everything works perfectly. We realize that it is abnormal to paint gear. But for those of you who build electronics, you know, a pretty box is just a pretty box. It is the electronics inside that are important."
