Seeing jm2c's post pushed me to pull the trigger on a FIIO Walkman. No recording but I have other decks for that. Doesn't sound half bad and I have other decks I can record to.

I moved everything around a little, so it is connected to a computer all the time. I created a midi pipe/bridge so I can map a keyboard to it at will. The VSmini is connected in the same way.
The only thing with both is that I run out of voices when playing them. Perhaps I should buy another one of each and stack them

Finally a worthy secondary workstation (after I dissed the MPC Key 37 in less than a day) at the right size, right weight, right engine familiarity, right prize (+ discount) and the right time: The beginning of my summer vacation with my two teen daughters.

Something to do when they withdraw to their girl stuff in the evening. Next week we shall live in a nice vacation house in a Water Park/Wellness center. Of course I am bringing this lightweight wonder with me. Seems made for it.

Thanks for pointing this out. Never new this existed and I have almost all of the Things plugins. I already make space music and this will bring things to the next level.

Got a Roland TD10 for when I'm in the mood for some more realistic drums (and/or Simmons e-drums). Also got a Digitech Studio 400, because I wanted a decent multieffect. I'm now running out of space, though.

Yeah, I've got the MC-808 on the way, but that's more like an XV/Fantom. I want old-fashioned dirty techno rompler sounds, so the MC-307 is based on the JV synth engine. Also thinking about getting an MC-101 or an MC-707, but that probably won't happen this month.

The RTM "walkman" arrived already!

Coupled with some Minirig(s and a sub), this is a very nice deck for taking out to barbeques and such. Beats any dinky ol' 80s boombox by leaps and bounds! The relatively modest speakers of the time were the weakest link there, in hindsight. This would also work well with just about any nicer BT speaker as well, but then again, you'd be relying on AD conversion.. in which case its not listening to tape anymore, now is it

The deck plays commercially recorded tapes really nicely, I must say.. I need to order me some RTM tapes (which are hopefully at least somewhat calibrated to this recorded?) and make some recording tests next..

I am a bit worried about the manual stating "no rec level adjustment is necessary; it is handled automatically" cuz if memory serves, those decks which auto-adjust rec levels often react undesirably to music with "drops" in it.. If the autoleveller fights any breakdowns in loud music, this will be a non-starter..

Checked this models info from the "New Gear Alert" subforum, this uses the same transport as the RTM model. Sounds pretty good doesnt it!

It does, I was concerned after reading some reviews but I’ve been quite happy with the performance. I even used it to digitize a Lionel Hampton album that I don’t think ever made it to digital and I thought it came out good.

2 * Bart HRK Solid State Console. I now see that the SIP8 part is not a THAT VCA but one of the NJRC cheapo opamps. Unfortunately, I'm out of Brown Dog SIP8 to DIP8 adapters...

Well, except that you will need a pc editor to get beyond the basics of the sound. Not like the direct acces of mc909.

Yeah, but that doesn't bother me in this case because I'm planning to use the Roland MCs as preset boxes. That's one of the reasons I went with the 808 over the 909 is that it's got more patches on it. It's got the sound engine of the original Fantom, and that's good enough for me!

I love those things. I need to get some Colors modules for my 500 rack because using those cards in the Eurorack is freaking amazing.

Found the plugin and bought 2 x Vintage drum machine sample based plugins whilst there for £15. So freebies work sometimes for Devs.

Cool, I know that approach. I bought MV-1 instead of MC707 for the same reason. Did not need a deep synth editor, just a Zencore Sound Canvas.

Oh snap, the plot thickens!!! How did you find the sequencing on the MV-1? I was bouncing between an MC-101 and MC-707 for the setup with the Aira Compacts, SP-404mkII, TR-8S, and SH-4D, but if the MV-1 has the exact same presets (and outward appearances show that it does), and it has eight tracks and 3,000+ presets like the MC-707, and it's cheaper, then that might be the better choice all together.

As traumatic as any one line digit programming can possible be…and with limitations such as 128 steps per pattern or so, which is not even enough for a decent melody. You’d have to chain patterns for anything else than minimal techno. I just tried it for fun, tho. It was bought as Sound Canvas for my MC909 whose sequencer I adore, so no loss.

A GS requirement. But, don't call it a lava lamp. It's a volcano lamp.

A good month, the best in a long time...
I got the Novation A-station and Yamaha cs6r very cheap from a friend. The A3000 was also very cheap, but I may just take out the i/o card to use it in my SU700 and then sell the A3000.
The Sonicware Liven Ambient Ø and Roland TR-6S are on their way, as well as the SCSI2SD 5.5 + adapter for my RS7000.
