This synth is great, and deserves to be enjoyed by by all, instead of just people with 6-8 grand to spend or those who got lucky in the 90’s.

Ill stick with my Waldorfs that work.

I know some people won't like this but I like the 4 octave format for these.

Keeps its nice and compact.

Did not like the 3 octave format for the VC340 however.

Funny, my Waldorfs seems to be unaffected as well!

If I was GASing for it, I would be onboard for a Behringer PPG In a second. But, I have enough wavetables for the moment.

Love Waldorf's VST... kind of a dream to have an actual hardware version of this synth.

EDIT... looks about the same depth as the DeepMind and VC340. This is good, as I should be able to fit this in the limted space I have. :-)

Editing the sounds will be a vintage style pain without a proper software editor.

Having had a pair of Wave 2.3's in the early 90s, I would be ALL IN on grabbing one of these. And they have to keep the MFDCP UI components, that's so cool. Yeah, I'm definitely on board with this one.

PPG WAVE (and especially the old 2.0) is my single most wanted synth. It is the only synth I regret I did not buy when I had the chance to have it for a relatively reasonable price (long ago).

I really hope they nail the sound of the old machines, otherwise it does not make sense to clone it.

None of the Waldorfs or plugins have the raw sound of the PPG. The only thing that sounds like it, is the Kotelnikov euro vco (but that is only one voice without filters vca, etc).

It’s harder to get excited when they have dozens of teases “just a year out.“ :D

At least people has stopped saying “Let Uli be Uli” and he hasn’t been getting into slapping matches on GS lately.

Anyway, looks interesting.

Would be awesome is they gave it Waveterm capabilities for 8 Bit Sampling even if via USB and software

Would be fun if it could interface with Audioterm, a great wavetable editor if you can handle the primitive interface.

Does anyone else hate fat glow in-the-dark wheels, especially on a classic synth design? Makes it look like a trashy toy.

It’s like putting underglow lights on an E-type, yuk.

The rest looks brilliant, if they get it sounding right it will be hard to resist if I’m still alive by the time it gets released... still waiting for the UBXa!

Urg. Another 4 octave synth that I’ll never buy despite really wanting the synth itself. I don’t get who really wants this 4 octave stuff. Why not make a desktop/rack for those with space issues and a 5 octave for those who want a properly sized keyboard? I guess I’ll stick with Waldorf PPG 3 then.

Also, while I’m at it, why bother copying that crappy interface? Does anyone ever say, “wow, their PPG Wave was so fun to program!” Would anyone be mad if you nailed the sound but made a new interface that was intuitive and fun to work with? The interface on my 002r is crap too, but at least they’ve put in a good software editor. The Deepmind editor wasn’t too bad, so maybe there’s hope for something like that.

The originals didn't have split/layer keyboard mode so i'm fine with this size,Yes nice and portable and for this 4 octaves is fine.

Having used the OG PPG, I really didn't mind the MFDCP model - it was pretty easy to navigate for me, and come on, it's sort of part of the charm of the PPG- those chonky white buttons switching pages? I feel like that's part of the EXPERIENCE. I was pretty happy to see that.

Part of the experience I won't miss? Having the voice cards come unseated every time you move the PPG. Hoping they have that resolved on the BBG.

I don't get the "portability" reason for reducing to four octaves. You don't save that much space. To be fair, DeepMind 12 and this aren't as physically deep as other four-octave keyboards.

Yeah, they fit quite nice on 12" deep shelves (though you need a few extra inches clearance for cabling). I have the VC340 on a shelf just above a DeepMind and it works great... I can play both easily. PPG looks to have about the same length/depth as the DM12.

Let's hear it for the color blue btw. Novation, Yamaha, Korg and Oberhiem have snuck a few blue flavored synths out in to the world over the years, but it's hard to beat the OG PPG... love they haven't messed w/ that iconic color.
