I would live to access some wave samples from some of my old K2600XS (and K2500XS) files from back in the 90's when I owned the keyboards, but so far have not found anything that can extract the samples or import/convert the files. Has anyone here heard of anything? I'd like to get those samples from my .K26 and .K25 files, but I guess they are not that important as to buy a K2600XS just to access them, but I thought I'd check here at GS before giving up. Any ideas? Thanks!

Chickensys Translator used to be the #1 tool for converting formats back in the day and AFAIK it’s still available, might do what you need.

It's a long shot and you'd have to be very technical, but the old DOS tracker Impulse Tracker used to open .KRZ sample files. If you're an old demoscene tracker you might be able to fire it up in DOSbox and try to load some samples - but if you haven't heard of Impulse Tracker before, it's probably going to be too painful to try. At least it would be cheaper than Chickensys Translator and not require an iLok.

There's a modern open source clone Schism Tracker that works on all the major operating systems, but I don't know if they kept the ability to open Kurzweil .KRZ sample files.

The Qasar Beach IIz can open Kurzweil files (.krz .kr1 .kr2 .kr3 .kr4 .kr5 .kr6). And you get a 'Fairlight' on your machine as a bonus :-)

Are you asking why anyone would want to recover their own work?

Because .K26 and .K25 files as extension is not a common format for other device beyond the Kurzweil devices...

Compared to example .SF or similar...
