sonically is there some benefit to buy a synth like argon when you have many plugins? i can understand for workflow , fun ect.. but sonically i don t hear difference same with what i heard from hydra.
it s crazy i want to buy a new synth but i can t find one that i really like the sound and that justify the price for me, sonically .. except the M but i find it s too limited as i like to have audiorate modulations. i might go for a nord modular or euro rack

One solution is to get rid of your DAW and go all hardware!! That's what I'm doing!

Most of the time I get anything from 3-8 voices for one patch
with unisono@3 with 1 wavetable, all mod slots, all modifiers.
This precluded me from using it multi-mode.

samples take even more resources, along with the comb filter.

Can anyone comment on how the synths such as the Hydrasynth and Argon respond to live play arpeggiation or sequencing.

My tempo test is a simple 4 on the floor at 72bpm coming from my Cyclone TT-78.



As my control I compare my Modwave against my Vermona '14 (analogue with digital control)
and found that the Vermona '14 VCA actually waits for the MIDI clock before it opens it VCA when it's keybed set ARP or Sequence mode.
Even when I deliberately keypress off the beat.

On the Modwave, the ARP or sequence seems to start on keypress, and even though tempo synched, it can sound off as the amp
starts up on keypress and not on midi clock.

The amp on the Modwave can not be disabled (as far as I know) from keypress (except of course I could set midi local=off) but then
I could not live play, except from a remote keyboard, which chances are would respond in the same way.
All the settings, I believe have been set correctly as per the manual.

It is entirely possible I am missing something here, so please chime in if I have.

If a synth is arped or sequenced from a DAW I can see that everything is in lockstep - the amp and all envelopes are triggered with the built in midi clock.

Just to share ARGON8 Firmware v3.0 adds new filters and pre drive. Unless Korg releases a 4-5 octave keyboard for the modwave, it is now the most compelling of the 3 for me.

The v3 firmware is amazing and adds a LOT of value to an already really comprehensive machine. I kind of wonder what they will do with the Cobalt8 now after this...

Bought my Argon8m just about when the v2 firmware was released, which already added a nice bunch of additional features, but now with the v3 I'm VERY happy I bought this machine, it's a total keeper.

im going to get a argon8x because they are quite affordable right now especially relatively, to use as my master keyboard. really nice price for a 61 key keybed with a synth attached. and i like the sound more than the hydrasynth, could be the demos but, i really dont think it matters either way, as long as you get along with teh interface and get something out you like.

Is this true that the Hydrasynth has a small Headroom and it can get very easily to clip/distort??

It is possible, but not if you’re using normal levels.

If you crank up the oscillators and amp level, yes it will clip. But if you leave the amp level at initialized value, it won’t clip easily. And you can always pull it down if it does start to clip.

Design philosophy of it generally is to let you do as you wish, with parameter ranges that allow you to go far outside of “normal”.

So yes, very easy to not have it clip because you’ve got several layers of gain staging and lots of headroom, but there’s also plenty of places to turn the gains up enough to cause clipping also
