Digitone keys was originally $1300 for the first year and only came down because it didn't sell well. Now that it has caught on with people they raised the price back up so it's profitable.

No, but it is still its own elektronesque thing (and the sound engine is also very different). But I agree with you about the missed opportunity regarding the monotimbraly of the opsix, imho this has more to do with some kind of laziness/rush than anything...

Maybe the voicing is too complicated for a rasberry pi that is in the opsix? Maybe not enough speed to make it a multitimbral thing? Mauve is just a hardware limitation? Who cares? This and a wavestation would give you all the sounds you could ever need in a compact form.
Most synths are nit multitimbral these days because we each have a ton of them anyway and it lets them focus on the sound..
Have you ever seen a voice board of a digitone? That thing is completely amazing and would take korg a year to develop instead of a couple months with a pi and it let them cut costs by using the same processor from the wavestate.. I'm glad we can buy this now instead of wasting months and money making it multitimbral.

The focus of opsix is NOT sequencer-based workflow. It's PLAYING THE DAMN THING. So yes, polyphony is important.

I can easily reach 32 voices of polyphony depending on what I play. Especially if it's piano-like.

There's nothing wrong with being lazy nor rushed, Korg did build the project with a monotimbral approach, that's all. Considering they managed to get so many voices, it seems legitimate to wish they'd have been a bit more ambitious. You are so confrontational btw...

I mean, the CPU that's there can calculate 32 voices (or 24 if you use HD waveforms, cool). There's nothing to say that there couldn't be multiple parts that dynamically allocate those voices. But indeed, then it really depends how accessible it is through the UI. There's a Shift button, and I suppose the 6 operator LEDs could double as part selectors, and 6 knobs/sliders could be part volume/pan... but there's nothing silkscreened on the panel so it would be like tapping in the dark and doing secret handshakes... Not fun!

Also, the 3 FX units would have to be shared by all the parts (or just bypassed per part). Not ideal.

I'm thinking of multimode on Blofeld where it definitely feels like an afterthought with a horrid UI. Sometimes I think Blofeld would've been better without it.

The Synth/FM Section of the Yanaha MODX sound so much better and richer than the OPsix and can morph Sound and cost only 200 Euros more..think about.

In the case of big manufacturers, I can't help thinking many letdowns, from the most moderate to those who can be qualified as objective failures, are dued to some stupid decision-making bosses (marketing/financial mainly) that have absolutely no knowledge/nor true interest in the product...

They already repurpose the 16 sequencer buttons for 16 positions for favorite patches. So, if we let ourselves float in the land of dreams, we could see these 16 buttons used to quickly select the part that would be played from keyboard and set up via encoders (patch, zone, midi channel, volume, pan, etc.).

So physical interface is available as well. It seems like the typical mythical "just a FW update" case... They didn't do it, period. Sad, but that's it.

Perhaps it's a mainland-Europe, non-Anglo-Saxon thing in general. I'm from the Netherlands, but I lived in North-America for some time. They didn't always appreciate my directness, and this is something I heard from other Dutch ppl too.

modx is a wicked tool but it is not 200 euro more, modx6 is £1000 pretty much most places, the opsix is being found @ less then £700 already before any reduction and i bet a buyer can get it to 650 and below easily, so we are talking about 400 euro difference all said and done, that is a quite a lot

some may also prefer the interface of the op6 plus the smaller size

while the modx is undoubtedly better (me being subjective) and offers lots moore, it is also a lot larger and arguably more intimidating as a tool/toy for those who may be a little gun shy, i would buy the modx over the korg personally but the space thing is a huge consideration and the accessibility to the engine is also a huge consideration, this part in particular Korg seem to have made very easy for even a new FM explorer

So if you were designing a polyphonic synth would you design one where people were maxing out the polyphony on a regular basis? Or design one with say 32 voices which is high enough that it's not going to be an issue

I have zero interest in the Yamaha MODX, but the OPSIX instantly appealed to me. The OPSIX looks like a lot more fun to me.

If I keep hearing the same people incessantly saying the same things about the Digitone over and over again in this thread, I’m going to go mad. Everybody knows that the Digitone exists, and what it can do. Quit being so dense.

Pretty much 99% of people aren't going to need or use all 32 voices as it stands right now. It is nice to know you aren't going to hit the limit of course, but that would be the case for most people even if it only had half of the polyphony it does now.

As a synthesizer there could have been some tasty layering action, especially with FM + waveforms, and I am sure most people would have wanted that over playing 32 EPs at once.

Who knows, maybe it isn't possible, maybe with an update...

I'll do it soon. Looking at the contents, it's really well done and 8 people. Where are these operators and processors? By the way, you can first see what kind of child the prepared operator is like. And here, the operator, here, the boots operator, and the operator here. How about the black operator? There is a question about what kind of setting it is, but with this, the board will suddenly hit the pitch.
