Hey Jamie, how come you pushed for auto save? For me it is unwelcome, I’ve lost the ability to jam over a beat then recall the original pattern [TAP/HOLD + Pattern]. That is muscle memory for me and I enjoyed using it for improvisation. I've already messed up some patterns that I like and can't revert. If you really want this functionality could it be an 'Enable Auto Save' option in Sythtool or something?

I have updated to 2.0.2 with no problems at all via synth tool (from 1.2.4) in Windows 10.

The RD8 definitely feels more complete now, especially concerning Auto save and inserting steps while not in record mode. TAP/HOLD + MUTE is very handy!

Also, I have found out that the over-accented triggering of steps in note repeat-mode is now gone!

on to making beats

I have been able to record 32nd note and faster note repeats, but not for 16th notes. this seems not to be working.

edit: maybe this is intentional so that only note repeat triggers *between* actual steps are recorded. the slowest setting triggers on step after all.

why not just jam without REC on or get in the practice of copying patterns in banks when active or keeping one bank for improvs etc? i appreciate that may be a pita but it isn't such a bad thing to get used to

I imagine any change in workflow upsets someone in one way or another, a lot of my machines have autosave and i know many are happy with it and wanted it

right now we have to have steps for the repeats to work so 16ths would be just like adding steps, we are aiming to get to the point where repeats are recorded without an existing step which is preferable with all i presume, trust me it was a WTF for me too when i saw it and i raised it immediately so we keep our fingers crossed for a more fluid version

we have more FW out for testing, that will get beaten and released soon all being well

oh and that has some really nice stuff in

With manual finger.. to the button

Take a empty pattern and in rec mode press note repeat & trigger on step 1 and keep it pushed down during a whole cycle, you will hear repeated instrument playing on every step as long as you keep buttons down. Ok now, since you pushed button on step 1 it will make step 1 to active and adds note repeat data on that specific step but leaves every other step untouched.

Its not big deal you have to actually push every note you wish to make active but it would be super handy to have note repeat function to work like uno drum for example, pushing 'roll' button starts to write steps and pushing erase button starts to remove them.

I thought I had installed the Zadig driver correctly but was still getting an error message about driver problems and an inability to communicate with RD-8. This article showed me that I in fact HAD NOT installed the driver at all!

I went to 2.0.2 from 1.2.6 via 1.3.5 but I see now that I could have skipped the middle stage.

NEW FW next out has gone in easier than a hot knife in butter, it has some very very nice additions and some things changed as per the last few days talking in here plus other bugs we found - we are making progress as a group of users, lets keep it polite and constructive as we are moving the machine forward - not trying to be your dad either

You are talking about improv so what's the problem ? if you do come up with some lightning rhythm simply take note of position or move it to a safe location and carry on

thinking about your post, why would you rub over a patt: when jamming anyway? That makes no sense, if I'm jamming and I jump to patt 7 I know if I like it enough not to delete it or copy into it or not so I move on to another. Are all your banks full? If so back it up and start again, that's all I do, it fills fast

It's just a different way of working than I've become accustomed to. I can relearn but an option on the rd8 or Synthtool would be better

Could other odd timings be possible? Such as 5/4 - 7/8 along with the current 1/8 - 1/8T - 1/16 - 1/16T
Even better would be able to set these per instrument?

You don't have to strictly stick to the physical 16 step sequencer. You can very easily do 5/4 and 7/8 (etc.) by just selecting the appropriate number of steps when you set the pattern length.

WTF is going on ?

"WAIT" will appear on the RD8 LED display. Once it's finished it'll restart. V2 firmware will display "rd-8" in lower case on the LED display when you power it on. If you're seeing the wait message then it's probably worked absolutely fine. Double check in the drum machine's settings to verify (settings > hold TAP/HOLD whilst pressing step 5. Keep TAP/HOLD held down to see the version scroll by).

Look, I'm not following whats already happened but have you deactivated all other USB devices(in setttings on PC) as much as possible or unplugged them(same difference) whilst you do the update, Synthtool doesn't seem to like other USB devices plugged in and may not work properly because of this, I had trouble updating my MS-101 until I removed all other USB's possible(Googled the problem for fix). I'm yet to update my RD-8 myself as been too busy.

nothing appears on the RD 8 screen during the "process" its just as switched off. if you look at the top of the pop-up box its saying synth tool error!

That's the message I got on my Mac. Are you sure you don't have v2.0.2 installed already? Does the RD8 start up if you power cycle it or has it been bricked? Try installing 1.3.5 again if you didn't already have that firmware installed.

Ok, and these are essential too, maybe try unplugging the keyboard as surely it's all clicking with mouse to run the update, i.e. remove k-board then run Synthtool, maybe worth a try. I'm not sure why other USB devices cause problems but they defo do, others have had positive results using this method of removing USB devices.
