This really spoke me at roughly the end of college, when it came out. Some thing about the way the synth lines all worked together..... truly locked. In a way that some of the contemporary Depeche Tracks did not. (Those were awesome too, just a little more 'jagged' in their assembly).
The bass sequence especially. Anyone recognize what type of synth that bass might be? So hard to know, especially w bass.
I must concur. I've always loved this track. From an interview with the fellas: "Andy McCluskey: We used lots of cheap but wonderful Korg and Roland monophonic synths for all of our early songs that had the distinctive synth melodies. We usually triple-tracked them hand played and slightly detuned to get that wide, harmonic, analog sound. I still have a soft spot for them but now prefer the soft synth plug-ins in my Protools.
Paul Humphreys: In terms of synthesizers, the first few albums were made almost entirely using a Korg Micro-Preset, Korg MS-20, Roland SH-01 and SH-2 and a Prophet 5. That was pretty much it. Adding a Mellotron, essentially a mechanical sampler, to these during the making of Architecture & Morality. As new technology appeared we always embraced it and in 1982 we discovered the incredible world of sampling when the first Emulator I emerged. That instrument alone inspired our Dazzle Ships album. Basically, 'new toys’ always provided new sonic and creative possibilities for Andy and myself. To this day, I still look for new synths, but now mainly in the virtual world of soft synths."
I'm honored to once again bring you another great new track by Firechild!!

Been obsessing over the intricacies of synthesising Stringed instruments these last months.
Please enjoy my old fat fingers combined with stock footage in this showcase of my latest moog one project.
How to synthesise realistic string sounds

- I used the excellent philharmonia youtube page.
They have videos of individual instruments just do a search within their channel https://www.youtube.com/@philharmonia_orchestra
synthesis setup and signal flow
This is the basic setup for the One:
OSC 3 is sending FM to OSC1
OSC 3 is hard synced to OSC2
OSC 2 will control the overall pitch of the system
all oscs set to triangle
OSC 1 is the only oscillator in the audio mix pre filter
I send that to a self oscillating band pass filter (SVF)
the SVF also has FM from any one of the oscillators
because OSC 1 is passing through a self oscillating filter which is also being fed FM from an OSC the GAIN of OSC1 in the mixer makes a huge difference to the tone
Ronnie Foster ripping it up on the not very sought after, Moog Satellite.
Mr. Foster seems to be pitch bending, but the Satellite has no pitch bender.
He's actually playing the glide control, coordinated with his intervals on the
keyboard to get the notes to glide where he wants them.
Same synth was used on the recorded version.
Outstanding blend of technique and musicality.
Fire And Ice To celebrate the release of the new album, we are proud to announce the title track, Fire And Ice, enjoy!
