Strictly for the purpose of a vocal recording does anyone have any experience with these multiple items compared to each other?


Audimute is double the cost of this large moving blanket from USCC https://www.uscargocontrol.com/produ...-sound-blanket

They make bold claims

The USCC moving blanket has no sound testing or anything and is basically just an extra dense moving blanket (same thickness and weighs about the same adjusted to size as audimute) but the audimute claims to have some other filling which makes it perform better than a regular sound blanket.

The producers choice one seems to be the same thing as a moving blanket except I read some stories where it smells awful and since this is for a bedroom that didn't sound too appealing and from what I understand it's about the same price as audimute when you factor in shipping and grommets.


So basically I don't know if I should trust audimutes claim that they perform better for absorption to same size and thickness than moving blankets despite being double the price and especially how that compares to the thicker/industrial moving blankets, which is essentially what this company Us Cargo control markets under the label of "sound blanket". In other words I could see it being "better" than the cheaper thin ones but I'm comparing to the thickest moving blankets out there.

If you can smell it that means nano's are reaching your nose! The big problem I have with most basstraps/sound blankets is in the 'fiberglass' problem that we are all familiar with. That and not alot of them mentiion FHZ they block and how low they go in particular.

a 10 x 10 room is not ideal (as im sure you know) due to it being a square; do you have a carpet? Is your ceiling level and how high. *srry if I missed that measurement* questions worth asking

Currently I am just doing a cylinder or rockwool in the corner the cardioid picks up, a pillow top matress, two duvets and as many wool coats as I could stuff back there in a U type shape behind me. First reflexion point is treated similar. Now I realize I am not catching alot of the low fhz. I have tried an isolation shield and did gain a few db (or lost a couple of room noise) but after much A/Bing decided it was a bit 'too dry' and complete dryness aka ''best possible vocal booth'' is not what I am going for...

That said I am having a tough time navigating sound blankets, v work blankets, v basstraps.... I only record vocals (which are offloaded to a studio for production) so I dont THINK I have to go too crazy acoustically. It definitely matters alot though. (Btw im not against product suggestions I just didn't wanna make this a 'lets shill things' type thread.

I have heard GIK bass traps as long as you handle with care you can avoid the glass skin/lungs.

I use the audimute blankets quite a lot for spaces where you need a cheap way to cover a lot of surface area. They won’t do much for sub 400hz, but to remove unwanted echo in large spaces they really do the trick. It can make speech intelligibility much better, take the slap off louder instruments, and are worth it if you’re using it for the right purpose. I find they do well in smaller spaces like your room, but smaller rooms like that struggle with sub 400 hz… so broadband bass traps will do more for you. If you hung an audimute blanket over a door or window it could help with reflections and be easy to move/roll up/ take down. Then use acoustic insulation to build traps for corners or primary reflection points.
I do find the audimute blankets are worth the money over moving blankets. They sound better and are better designed for it.
Just please keep in mind they are not sound proofing or isolation, they intentionally allow air to pass in order to do the job of absorbing energy. Make sure you keep an air gap between blanket and wall as well. Over windows and doors generally there’s already a gap.
