So I went down this road...

And I followed all the steps that I could to get this AQA assignment done, but I just can't get it to work. I've managed to remove the assignment to the master volume, and I've got Midipipe up and running correctly (I think), but I just can't get AQA to learn the XT fader in master mode. No matter what I do, it just ends up with a blank entry in the Value Change field in the MIDI Input Message section of the controller assignment.

I turn it on in the preferences, hit learn, move the fader...
I must have tried it 20 times now!

What could I be missing?

Love the XT1 by the way - for everything else, it just works.

Oh, apart from scrub. Should that work properly?

Just enter the assignment parameters manually for the aqa assignment if it’s not learning them correctly…

Just the scrub functionality not working now, but that's not a major issue for me.

Well, it moves the playhead but no audio is "scrubbed" - it's silent.

Sounds more like a Logic config issue, than a controller one.

Is scrubbing for audio turned on in your audio prefs?

So now I’m getting frustrated with the XT1’s behaviour when it comes to folders and summing stacks in Logic. Basically it won’t work with any tracks in or “below” a folder or summing stack. Is there any way around this (other than obviously not using folders or summing stacks!)?

Just tried a summing stack, and it works as expected here. I can select the stack track, in which case the XT1 fader affects the summing stack track, or select either of the two instrument tracks inside it, and the fader controls which of those I have selected.

Hi! I'm curious to know how you did it. I've tried what the same on mine, making sure Master Fader on the device was chosen and the desired track highlighted. I did Learn Message and moved the physical fader up and down and then Done, but there was no response when I tested the Volume automation; that is, no response for the fader at all.

Sorry, i tried that some years ago (the post is not recent) and when i tried again, it didn't worked. I do not know why, but several new Logic Pro version came out between the two tests, so ...

Anyone ever managed to use the main Volume fader of an X-Touch (the 9th fader) for "Automation Quick Access" ?

This thread is about the XTouch One, which is different to the XTouch. I'm not sure what the assignments are, but if the master fader assignment is doing the same thing it does on the XT-One, then it should work in the same way as described above in the thread, and the procedure to do this would be exactly the same.

Worked great with Logic 10.4.8 on Mojave! You could just 'learn' the master fader in Logic's quick automation access.
It even worked with parameter feedback. Finally the 'Master Fader' made some sense
I'm now on 10.8.1, totally forgot about that and will try again when i'm back in the studio.

I tried it but it doent work as expected, and the fader always jumps back to its initial position. Hopefully we find a solution

Did you read through the thread? We discuss master fader resets and the way I worked around the issue, and we also discussed how you need to modify the assignments to remove the master fader assignments.

Yeah I just read again and I still dont get it.
When I remove the master fader mapping and learn Automation Quick Access I get this:


I also tried entering the parameters manually, as shown on previous screenshots.... still no change.

OK I did the following:

removed the master fader mapping
learned the master fader with AutomationQuickAccess

Then I changed the parameters like this:



Result is that i can now control the volume of teh selected track only. What is missing here please? The parameter Volume seams to be wrong.

The parameter displayed will depend on what AQA is currently controlling. The AQA feature targets different parameters when you change the visible automation parameter on the selected track, so what parameter is displayed when you make the assignment doesn't really mean anything.

Is AQA working, or not? Are you sure the AQA assignment is the one being triggered when you move your fader?

Does AQA work for you if you try a different assignment (eg, if you assign the mod wheel from your keyboard to it?)

I also noticed that when I learn the master fader under Settings/ AQA Learn Message, the mapping works, when I click done the mapping is gone and I have to manually learn again in teh expert view.

Great! But it still sounds like you haven't read the thread... fader reset is a problem, because when you remove the master fader assignment, the controller no longer gets feedback, and then resets the fader to the last known stored internal position. The XT-One does this too, and as I said earlier, a discussion of what's happening, and my strategies to make a workaround, is all documented previously...

Yep.

I said "sniff, not hijack", so the hijack option should be unchecked, as it is in your screenshot - ie, you don't want to turn hijack on, otherwise the controller will no longer send MIDI to Logic, and will not work at all.

You should understand what this routing is doing and trying to achieve, which will guide you setting it up...

I have set it up like this:


* MIDI In sniff (XT MIDI port)



* Channel Filter (Let only CH9 events pass)


* MIDI Out send (XT MIDI port)

You need to understand how Midipipe works, you've not made a processing pipe at all, you've just clicked on various tools, and are just showing me screenshots of what MIDIpipe looks like - you haven't built a processing pipe at all, if that's all you are doing.

I'll start you off - select the MIDI In option from the Tools column on the left. *Drag it over to the right*, your "Pipes" column, to add that MIDI In item as your first process in your MIDI "pipe". (This is what the large column on the right is for).

Set the properties for that item as required. Then select the channel filter item or whatever it is you need, and again, drag it over to the right, after your MIDI in process, and again set the options for the processing item. I literally spell out the script earlier in the thread.

If you're not sure how MIDIpipe works, read the docs and check out the example scripts, and above all verify that what you are setting up is working, before going back to Logic. Use a MIDI monitor (eg Snoize) to inspect the MIDI traffic and check that what you expect to happen is happening...
