I was listening to Susan Rogers talking recently about how Prince often used varispeed on his vocals and guitars, and it got me onto wanting to try the idea for myself. But what I don't understand is how you can change the pitch and speed of individual tracks without messing up how they sit in the mix. I'm sure that I'm missing alot about how it all works, but if anyone has any insight, please share. Thx
When Prince used varispeed on his vocals and guitars, he was hearing the pitch that the varispeed was set to. Once he finished his overdubs, he listened to what he track in normal speed.

I've been doing this technique since the late '70s, early '80s.
So if you wanna record sped up vox and guitars, you slow down the rest of the recording, do your overdubs to the slowed down version, then play everything back at normal speed?
