However, Motu currently does not provide any product service once the warranty runs out. For the products still in warranty they simply swap it with a working unit. I found this out with a borken 828ES unit.
There are a lot of misconceptions deriving from differing experiences.
I have a couple of Black Lion modified 828 mk2's from back in the early 2000. Discontinued years ago. And I have a Black Lion micro clock for clocking them.
A couple of years ago, I had problems with the synchronization setup for the clocking, as I found the Motu software dialogue a bit confusing.
The Motu tech spent literally hours on the phone, during two days, helping me out. He called me back and followed up on it.
There was no issue with discontinued support.
I also remember back in the days of firewire issues, driving both Motu and RME owners crazy, motu told me early on that it was not their drivers, but windows related. Later it became clear that certain intel chipset and windows, was an issue in this regard.
Due to the outstanding service I have received from Motu, I am now running a pair of 24Ao and 24Ai, with my 2 old 828 mk2's and a RME Octamic, as AD/DA converters. Everything running with the BLA micro clock.
The sound from the new devices, holds water big time. They might be even better if upgraded with BLA, but I do not trust their services any longer, due to their new practice of not answering to any support requests, even from retailers. Customer care counts, and I am very happy with Motu in this regard.
I wish I could find more practical help with learning the Motu pro routing and mixing system though.
