The Focusrite Mix Master is an analogue stereo mastering processor that contains a dynamic processor (stereo spectral compressor), an equalizer, a stereo expander and an output section. It is an analog unit. Various settings are predefined, on the controls. It has XLR connections as well as 1/4 inch. It is a rack mountable unit and will take up two rack space units.
The 3-band compressor is efficient and transparent and can deal with complex sources. There are "lock" buttons to chain the 3 seperate compressors together to one detector circuit. There's two "trim" pots for the low and high band. There is a Lowpass filter in with 2 different optional slopes.
The maximum compression ratio is 5 / 1, 4 / 1, 3 / 1, 2.2 / 1 1.7 / 1 1.3 / 1, a maximum compression of 16 dB (10 dB recommended). Two choices of attack: slow or fast. Release has 4 settings plus fixed or auto.
The Equalizer settings are:
LF: 40, 70, 120, on shelving + / - 10 dB
HF shelving, 10K, 14K, 20K of + / - 10 dB
MF: 100 or 1K 1K 10 K (booster x 10 F) to + / - 10 dB with Q 0.4 1.5
Overload led
The width correction can tighten or broaden the program material, together with an indication of a phase coherence.
Limiter "protection" with an indicator of the rate-limiting at -6 dB.
Focusrite Mixmaster is a multi band opto compressor that sounds great and is the best hardware multiband compressor I have heard.
