I've recently been having a lot of fun mixing an album in Dolby Atmos. All mixes are to spec of -18 mixed in the Atmos Renderer ver3.7.

I'd like to share a Binaural atmos render to my client, but there seems to be a significant volume jump in binaural mode compared to standard 2.0. This gain difference results in the mix coming out sounding heavily limited and peaking above 0dBFS.

There appears to be no binaural trim capability in the renderer when exporting from the master file, which I can't understand since it's supposed to be "a one trick pony" plug-in with regards to deliverables.

Anyone have any suggestions, or would like to share their binaural rerender workflows?

Would be greatly appreciated.

Both the Atmos and the Binaural loudness are reading at or below -18 in live mode within the renderer?

The atmos integrated is -18 as intended, however the binaural integrated reads at -14 in the live renderer and is being heavily limited.

Which I can understand as a stereo fold, I just can't understand why there isn't an option to trim the binaural re-render like you can with the other deliverables.

The binaural should read -14 or below while also reading 1 dB TP maximum without limiting (best practice) or with very little limiting (1 dB) from the Renderer. If your Binaural goes louder than -1 dB TP and triggers the limiter you can either lower the whole mix level or address it within the mic by controlling dynamics of those channels/tracks, either beds or objects with "excessive" dynamic range.

Thanks for your message. So other than having a less dynamic mix, there is no way of manually trimming the fold down? 2.0 FD works and sounds good without clipping/limiting, so I don't see why the BIN should - certainly if there isn't an ability to manually adjust. Clearly they're being folded/rendered differently.

Just seems strange to me, for a format that's ultimately encouraging dynamic range and an end to end solution for deliverables - to not allow any form of control.

I am not aware of any trimming facilities unless I am missing something (could well be... still early days in a way..)

Same thing over here...even if keeping the level of the mix so Binaural metering won´t go over -14, the re-rendered version bounced offline still sounds louder and much worst than the binaural live render monitored while reproducing the bounced Atmos Master from Dolby Atmos production Suite....

So it seems that there is a 10 dB difference in level between the Dolby Atmos and the Binaural measurements:
