Our group has released an evolving, AR audio composition for iOS--alongside a how-to guide for other musicians to build their own.



Upon launching the Year One app, the different sounds and instruments of the songs will populate and begin moving through the space around you. Your movement, tracked by your smartphone, will affect which sounds you hear and change how individual effects are applied to them--increasing distortion on a guitar, or changing the pitch of a note--making for a different listening experience each time.

Alongside the app, we've released a how-to guide for any musician to build their own similar app independently for free. We are also cataloging and demonstrating various spatial composition techniques through videos and sharing coding. This guide, techniques, album download link, and more can all be found on TCW A/V.

The initial release of Year One contains songs composed specifically for space by our group. Throughout the year, we will continue creating music for it but are also looking to build music with other artists, curating a collection of spatial audio tracks that changes with each update. The app and all subsequent versions are free. Of course, headphones are required for the proper experience!

Excellent, thank you very much for the info at the tcw a/v. I was able to download and run it on my ipad mini 2 using ios 11, some sample clicks but otherwise sounds great. I couldn't see any ar things on the screen aside from the year one logo. I have noticed that some of the olderish ipads don't work perfectly with apples new ios 11, so probably nuthing to do with your code(I was having problems with other AR app's on my ipad mini). Look forward to what you guys come up with as this entire area opens up.

Thanks for checking it out, Patrick! No glitch there--it's meant to be a purely auditory experience. There are all sorts of visual things going on under there--you can see the orbs, etc (like in the promo video)--but we wanted people to navigate entirely using their ears.
