The .cal file is required for the most accurate result. There are two devices the signal must pass through and they are not to be considered as part of the acoustic system. In reality, the output device will be part of the system, but you cannot loopback to measure the output only.

To sum it all up, the sequence goes
Like:-
REW (sweep) =>Soundcard Out=>passing through amp/speaker=>ECM-8000=>Mixer XLR in=>USB OUT of mixer=>USB IN of the computer=> back into REW
Since the input of the soundcard is not used here, there does not arise a situation to calculate the input/output differential (calibration) of the soundcard. I'm curious if this is the case with all USB Mics--
