I’m setting up a studio in a small room at my new house and could use some tips after taking some measurements. The room is 3.05m x 3.05m with a height of 2.55m (10' x 10' x 8'), and I haven’t done any acoustic treatment yet. I am at a distance of about 1,25m (4,5') of the walls
Last week, I bought a
dbx RTA-M and measured the room. I’d appreciate some help understanding the graphs and advice on where and how to start treating this room.
The main purposes of this studio will be mixing (mainly), recording vocals, and producing/arranging instrumentals.
Equipments used:- Measuring Mic: DBX RTA-M
- Speakers: Yamaha HS5 (No Subs)
- Digital Interface: SSL 2+
I’ve attached some pictures of the room as well.
Thanks in advance!
Hi,
A room with even dimensions (basically in your situation a small square) is not recommended for a setup as a critical listening space.
Even with all the treatment you will try, the lack of modal support which will result in wide and deep nulls in the bass region, plus the extreme modal peaks will be daunting to try to fix in a small space.
But if you want to try, your best bet is to tackle the easy stuff first (get everything under control from 1khz-8khz), try not to over dampen the area between 250hz-1khz and in terms of everything below 250hz, just do the best you can in terms of finding a speaker/listener combination (you might end up in the middle of the room) and rely on headphones you trust for the bass and sub bass region.
Its just not an ideal situation.
