Some nice improvements, but I can't for the life of me understand how some basic features are STILL missing, in 2014!

The grouping (channel link or whatever it's called) functionality is stone-age compared to PT, and still no VCAs. No workarounds for those missing features. I'll appreciate bass management for example, but there are ways around not having that functionality, like just buying a plugin or doing it in hardware. Ditto on new reverbs. And they can toss that NEK crap on the garbage heap already.

The lack of VCAs is astonishing considering how many people have been yelling for them.

Considering how much they are used in post and the current state of affairs at Avid (i.e., nary a better time to lure some small shops over, especially since their expanded AAF translation talks about how great PT interchange works) - surely now is the time.

I just looked on the website to see how much the upgrade from 6+NEK and thre is none. So, maybe 6.5 is NOT a paid upgrade. Has anyone heard anything different ? I thought i read that this was paid upgrade but maybe i am incorrect. Cheers john

Yeah Good question on the paid or not. I know that the 5 to 6+nek was what like 350 or so? Honestly I hope they just integrate the NEK in V7 and be done with it.
Your paying for the post features not the music features.. you should have Cubase for the main musical stuff then Nuendo which has Cubase+post not Post+ cubase. It would make more sense to swap the idea.
You have cubase for like 400 then Nuendo added post stuff for some reasonable amount. Become competitive to PT. Even GASP start offing a PT -> Nuendo Crossgrade! But bundle in the NEK. that way your getting all of protools audio stuff but with the added in cubase midi stuff that PT isn't as good at. Best of both worlds. If Steinberg was smart they would start it now and totally yell it from the rooftops.

It would have been a decent opportunity to do that for v6 and they didn't. I doubt they will for v7. They're far too stubborn to listen to reason if it doesn't conform to their opinion. Heck, it never even made sense financially.

I think that's just semantics. It doesn't change anything. I don't mind a tiered product lineup as long as it isn't confusing and unnecessary. And I don't mind the branding being different.

They've had at least a couple of great opportunities to try to steal customers from Avid but they just fail even when it is recommended to them. At one point where there was a lot of noise and discontent in the Avid community it took, if I remember correctly, about 6-8 weeks before Steinberg made a crossgrade offer. And when it did it was a link buried on the Steinberg homepage, not a big splash or internet/social media push. They just suck at marketing and can't just accept that their way might not be optimal.

Of course, no PT engineer relying groups or VCAs would (will) touch Nuendo without that functionality. Put hey, there's always Padshop, right?

People have been yelling for VCAs since Cubase 7 was announced, and I think I remember someone from SB saying they were "planned". Yeah...let's wait.

And no further unpaid updates to the previous version, correct?

thx G … a little sad to hear that :( if 100-150 bucks maaaaaaaybe, but over that i feel like i am paying for development testing … or bug testing … not mad, just sad, disappointed … a friend talked me into buying N6 for all the cool features but i have not had a great time yet … not giving up quite yet … but hopefully that this 6.5 will please alleviate some issues before new features …

'G" - - i assume SB is aware of all this or they would not be a company that could continue too much longer … can you just help us have a sense of security that our investment in money and time will not go unnoticed … that SB really is working on these issues - we just need a "Virtual Hug" - we all know that when people are loyal to a brand they stick with it through thick and thin. well, here we all are in the Thick - waiting for the Thin …

As long as you keep paying for bug-fixes you'll be fine. That's how it works. Steinberg doesn't care if they sell a product that doesn't do what they promised. They care if you pay. "Virtual Hugs" they give out every now and then and then the users go "Oh, that's awesome, great, thanks for communicating!" and happily open their wallets again. Nothing changes.

I've been working on PT and Sonar for 15 years and just thought I might wanna move to something else. I've not even thought the word Nuendo in years. I did search and came to this thread. That pretty much ends my consideration of Nuendo. I'll check back in a few years, lol.

Well this is good news for Cubase users - must mean Cubase 8 is only a few weeks away since N6.5 is near.
So glad I sold my Nuendo license when I did.

VCA's !!!!

I have been asking for VCA's in Cubendo now for literally years.
It is such an essential facility for a professional mixing environment.

I actually starting to think nobody at SB actually mixes music, othertwise they would create VCA's for Cubendo.

This feature is simple ESSENTIAL when dealing with a large mix and lot's of automation.

Plus the platform also needs "linked automation editing" again ESSENTIAL not to mention the most basic ability to name linked groups instead of a just having a number

Come on SB three or four essential mixing features and you'll be playing with the big boys

Proper groups like PT does it as well as VCAs is indeed what many professional mixers in both music and post have been asking for for years. Steinberg clearly thinks it's more important to develop crap that we can get elsewhere, like softsynths etc, and spend time and resources redesigning GUIs that nobody asked to have redesigned.

Their priorities have always been questionable, and they appear to never really listen to this.

But like I said, at least those who paid for version 6 get to pay again to get any outstanding bugs fixed, assuming they are.

For the moment it looks like it, but it is not finally yet.

Yes, we are aware of this, and we actually have moved the release date as we don't want to rush it and make it as stable as possible.

Yeah it blows my mind on the VCA. They had the perfect opportunity when redesigning for the mixconsole it's unfathomable they didn't stop to think "hey let's go ahead and add VCAs while we are in here since many people have been clamoring for it for years and it's an advantage that Protools has it". I think part of it is they keep listening to certain "embedded" sycophants over there. This will be the first version I think I don't upgrade my Nuendo license as I have done since version 1, but I would have if they had added VCAs. I will just stick to Cubase for the time being. If they are not added in version 7 I might just sell my Nuendo license on.

i am waiting as well .. VST connect pro ins in my crosshairs for collaboration but I need a stable platform before i make this purchase … so standing by for a little bit more in hopes … the next move is to Sell Nuendo and purchase Cubase and VST connect pro as i do not need most of the features on Nuendo anymore .. just need it stable so when i use VST connect pro i am not looking like a fool to clients .. cheers john
