I just want to say I wish Yamaha would come out with a dedicated DAW controller for Cubase, home studio of project studio people

I can not afford a Nuage! nor WOULD IT FIT

I have had the artist series, 1 control, 3 mix and a transport

I had a mixed logic M24

I have tried EVERYTHING, and most are ok.

i now have a CC121 believe it or not, if NOTHING else make 8 track fader packs to connect to this. the build is great, control is great, it just needs MORE faders

and NO those things they made that you trace your finger on ARE NOT IT

but more than that looking at S1 and the CS18 studio live thing, its not exactly what i want but they are DOING THINGS with their DAW and hardware control

i do NOT want a yamaha LIVE mixer that sort of controls cubase

i love yamaha, i love cubase i would love something like the old 24 track controller from ???? i cant remember the name

jogh wheel
normal buttons, mute, solo, record, write, pan etc

nothing crazy

i had a N12 to, if they motorized that and added more channels and updated the AD DA etc you would have a great all in one, even more than just a controller

but i love my apogee symphony stuff so i dont need ANYTHING other than a 24 track, expandable DAW controller made by yamaha that is GREAT quality, the way yamah can!

Avid artist mix + MC transport are your friends.
I used to have CC121 but these 2 guys are just in a different league.

I have been complaining about the same thing for quite some time now.

We surely need a multi-fader super cool looking, and suitably priced control surface for Cubase. From YAMAHA/Steinberg ! Not other manufacturers. Why should a Cubase user have to buy a control surface from Avid to enjoy using Cubase ? Beats me

So, come on Yamaha/Steinberg, we know you offer the Nuage, but that's not for us who have Project Studios, the Nuage is out of our price range, and is more suitable for Post-Production facilities.

Hopefully this request from YAMAHA/Steinberg will materialize in the near future.

Presonus is doing s1 right although i used the studio live and s1 for a long time on a live gig and they aren't up there cubase and Yamaha imho

I don't want a third party product when the parent company makes some of the best hardware mixers out there

And the n12 programming into cubase was way better than the artist series

Faders are very sensitive and responsive,a-grade material.

YAMAHA/Steinberg should make a new Control Surface for Project Studios. that is between their CMC line and the Nuage.

imho. Neither the CMC nor the Nuage are perfect for Project Studios.

Agreed. I wish Steinberg/Yamaha would make something similar to an Avid S3. I gave up waiting and bought an S3 and it is very very good with Cubase but I'm sure Steinberg would do an even better job.

Given they have not given us a hint that this happening, I have no clue if this will happen any time in the future, So... only time will tell. But, I would hate to buy an Avid Control Surface for Cubase, just to be surprised a little while after my purchase, that YAMAHA/Steinberg have announced their new Control-Surface for Cubase, which looks awesome, and offers great and very slick features to control Cubase, at a very competitive price.

I had exactly the same fear when I bought my S3. 'What if they're just about to bring out an amazing Steinberg controller?' ....that was a year ago!

I think resale value on a used S3 will be pretty good anyway.

I will give myself a waiting deadline of June 30th, 2016, if YAMAHA/Steinberg have not announced any new Control-Surface for Cubase by then, I will most likely go with the Avid S3.

Talking about the Avid S3, what other DAWs is it compatible with ? and how do you like it so far when working with Cubase, I'm guessing it works well with both (PC and Mac) ?

I'm on PC (Windows 8.1) , just wanted to make sure I won't have any issues if I decide to get the S3.

In terms of stability, it's been 100% rock solid for me on Win10 and on Win8.1 before that.

Overall, it's excellent with Cubase and in some ways it works even better than on Pro Tools -most notably it has the ability to customise how your plugin parameters appear on the controller, which you can't do in Pro Tools. The other great thing is that you can use the Cubase scalable mixer to match the on screen mixer channel widths to the controller. Then you can place your monitor directly behind the S3 much like a Nuage or S6, giving excellent visual feedback.

One more detail might hold me back from buying the S3 for while, since I'm slowly starting to also use Presonus S1 V3, and it currently does not support Eucon protocol, (Maybe they will support it in the future), so a bit of a gamble if I decide to use both Cubase and S1 , at least I know it works well with Cubase on Windows.

I think the S3 is a nice looking control board and def built better than the artist series. i would have liked 24 channels but overall i think its the nicest looking one out there right now

Just mystifies me. there are alot of third party controllers but Yamaha makes great stuff, even the N12 was insanely well built and the connection to cubase just worked, everywhere everytime, the AVID stuff was always flakey and again its third party, i want the synergy that yamaha and steiny can do so well. the nuage is BEAUTIFUL! i sat at one at gearfest and its so well built! and the interaction they had going with nuendo was something to behold and i just thought wow, a beautiful 24 track controller for cubase/nuendo for the home and project studio at this level would be such a home run

the nuage was much nicer than the avid S6 and again, i am not talking eucon or third party, Yamaha would make something far better.

Seriously they should do a Nuage Mini or something.. with a good smattering of features from its big brother.. Resue the knowledge they have and give us like a 10 or 12 fader version fro about 3000 or so.. Id buy it in a heart beat..

very few of us home or project people can afford the Nuage (also it would never fit in my room or most!), its beautiful though and the quality is amazing, the faders just glide! yep just grab some of the tech, and pair it down, maybe do a 12 channel wit the full blwon transport stuff and then an add on fader pack, just like they do for the nuage

i was REALLY amazed how great the yamaha nuage board was, a thing of beauty. yamaha and cubase would be crazy good for us.

yep! there is, i read somewhere that cubase is the number 1 DAW out there? most users? even if not there are a ton of us! its funny, because its not like yamaha hsa to sit theri and go "hmmm so those console things, how do we do that"? the nuage is literally built and ready to go. i love that the AD DA is SEPERATE and its modular. the problem is the modules for nuage are way to much for what we are talling about
the N12 was 12 chaneels, ad da, full blown transpoirt, 3 sets of speakers, pre ampts, eq, comp verb and worked PERFECT with cubase, every button only did ONE thing, FAST

cost ? 1200!

they could easily do a 16 or 24 channel controller only for 3500! one button for each part of cubase, motorised faders! beautiful.

I have been waiting for a long time to see something like a Nuage Junior , Check my post about this topic here : Would love it if Steinberg/Yamaha made a Nuage Junior !

But the problem remains the same: Users dream of a controller that is really affordable but aren't really willing to compromise on features or quality to the extent that the company making it can actually make it work. I mean, just look at the very first post:

It's not crazy at all. For a controller it's totally reasonable. But to say that Nuage is too expensive and too big, with 16 faders, only to then ask for 8 more faders....!? Where is Steinberg/Yamaha going to cut costs to make that reasonable? The faders are probably the most expensive component of a controller, so how is increasing the amount by 50% helping?

In addition to that, the less specific-DAW-specific features a controller has, the less reason there is to get something from Steinberg/Yamaha specifically. In other words, if it's functions that exist using Mackie's protocol then that's all that's needed. So anything from the Behringer X-touch to the Artist series to the arguably better mixers with motorized touch sensitive faders and DAW control would now be contenders. So in a stationary setup in a studio it would make sense to re-evaluate the entire setup. If one has the need for say 16 channels of mic pres then why not just buy a 16 channel mixer with pres and that DAW control. Sure, it won't be a DAW-specific control surface, but that wasn't needed in the first place.

Yes thats the conclusion I came to as well. If you're selling a controller (Nuage) for tens of thousands of Euros and it has 1 fader and two rotaries per channel, what are you going to cut from that setup in order to wipe a zero off the price tag and still be able to sell the high end Nuage?

You could cripple the software implementation, in which case the very well integrated Avid S3 starts to look like a better choice? Don't think you can realistically have less than two knobs per channel. You could lose the touchscreen... oh wait, Avid have just released the Avid Dock with iPad functionality.

I don't think it's easy and I guess that's why we haven't seen a decent mid range Steinberg controller. Still, I'd be very pleased if Steinberg did make something in this department.

I think a lot of people would... depending on the price.

The difference between the Nucleus and the s3 for example is that the SSL has transport buttons and a jog/shuttle (good) and the s3 has Eucon (good). Personally I can use a Contour Shuttle for some of that transport functionality, along with just a regular keyboard, but I can't substitute a protocol with them. So, the s3 in my opinion has the edge there. It's also lower profile I think.

So again, if that's what people want - 16 faders with pretty deep integration - then the s3 exists. It's just that it's too expensive. So, again:

Nuage - about $12,000
Avid s3 - about $5,000

Both are 16 fader units with dedicated protocols. What are we willing to give up in hardware to get the price down? Quality? Then there's the Artist Mix at $1,000 or so (8 faders). Protocol? Behringer X-Touch or Mackie, $600-$1,000 (8 faders). Expandability? Behringer. And so on....

I bought my Mackie Logic control (I added the chip that let it work with Cubase/PT) about 12 years ago!

It still looks like new and touch wood works exactly 100% as it did the day I bought it 12 years ago!

So if Mackie or someone else did a 16 fader unit nothing more than similar quality for £1500 it would be fantastic - there is absolutely no need for it to cost £3.5K

I imagine the reason SSL don't do a controller only version on the Nucleus for around £1500 - £1800 is because if they did they would never sell another £3.5K Nucleus with an onboard audio interface!

Why people keep making 8 channel controllers is beyond me - 16 or 24 is what we want.

Think 24 faders - would need but a single bank button press to access 48 channels.

Even 16 faders is only two presses to bank 48 channels.

I guess I'll just have to save and search for a second hand Nucleus!
