I've had the Mogami Platinum guitar cable for quite a while and decided to do an AB test against another regular Mogami cable. Just played the "Semi-Charmed Life" riff consistently with a clean tone. The chain was:

Fender Strat w/ Kinman's --> Cable --> GTQ2 --> Lavry Black AD --> Logic --> Lavry Black DA --> Barefoots --> Ears (I can still hear those kids' ring tones that are supposed to be inaudible for adults)

There is unquestionably more high end content with the Platinum cable. It's a very small difference but it is definitely noticeable: a little more shimmer around 8+ KHz. To me, it gives the electric guitar a slightly more acoustic sound. I should also add that I played lots of other riffs and just improvised and regardless of what was being played, this was always the case.

Funny thing is, I did this AB test because I'm getting a slight high end scratchy hissy sound when I strum pretty hard...pretty sure it's the wiring or pups. Anyway, the Platinum cable brings this out a little more than the regular cable but it's noticeable with both.

Not long ago I bought a few of those and even the one with the on/off plug.

They are good but the one with the on/off died on me during a show for no reason.

Now I put those in the same category as Monster cable : Not relayable ( Spelling ???).

The ones that still do the job and sounds amazing for studio work and Live are my 5 years old Zaola.

Aaron... there is a difference in cables. I have all Mogami cables as well. I noticed similar differences when I compared Mogami to Monster 500. Mogami was slightly cleaner. Not big enough to make an impact when you're talkin "ONE" track of audio. but as Fletcher said I while back (if I remember correctly), the differences are more noticable when you start adding a bunch tracks.

I have the Mogami Platinum Cable which I use on both bass and guitar. To me, I do not hear or would classify the cable as adding high frequency content at all. I hear more as just open. I use a Les Paul and a Pbass here...into various different heads/amps/cabs/mics/pres. The Platinum is fuller, more focused, obviously doesn't make any noise when you plug it in which is great...and there are a few other benefits I hear. In any case, it's a great cable, expensive, but it has made things 'nicer' for me in the studio for sure.

I use the Mogami Platinum as well as the Analysis Plus.....on my LP i prefer the Mogami on my strat I prefer the AP....they are both excellent cables....

I use the Mogami Platinum too for my basses and the George LS cables with Neutrik gold plug's.
The Mogami gives a little more output and high frequencies as the George LS.
For me the George LS works better on bass,.....give a "dry and direct" Sound.

Half the time with electric guitar I end up using an old, cheap, long cable. It's less clear in the highs but I like the softening.

Yarp, I did a shoot out like this not long ago. The Mogami Silver and Canare GS6 were very very similar with the Platinum having a noticeable high end extension... but, it sounded "wrong" to me. I ended up much preferring a cable with a bit more capacitance as the extra high end made an artificially airy tone. Certainly a matter of what you're used to, but FWIW.

Yeah... I like the Mogami Cable too... it's easier to work with than George L. However, George L cable with gold neutrik connectors (or even regular ole' switchcraft connectors) still sounds best to me... and I am really picky. I've been playing guitar since 1981...

I just bought a Mogami platinum - it has one red and one black connector, which makes me thing it is directional. Is it, and if so which way does it go?

Guess what - unbelievable - the cable was DOA - fresh out of the original package. I tried everything and it didn't work so I just took it back to GC and got the gold instead.

you were screwed. sue them. directional cables are the biggest bullshit I heve ever seen and heard of. you are dealing with ALTERNATING CURRENT - to your information: there is no diretion in AC.

I dont believe how many uninformed - not to say dumb - people can be screwed this way by the comapnies, including Gibson. that idiotic company sells also directional cables - for guitars. they for sure should know, that out of a guitar comes AC.

but, you know, there are enough dumb customers that buy this bullshit ...

sorry, if I come across a little bit harsh ... but buying directional cables to put AC through it is ... sorry ... at least uninformed. a little book about "physics for starters" should do the trick ... or any public school.

Umm.... just you know the cable IS directional, but not because of the signal, but because they designed one end (the guitar end) to have an automatic "short" so when you unplug it from YOUR GUITAR you don't get ancillary noise. So, yeah, you did come off as just a bit harsh. My complaint is that they don't TELL you this in the packaging or even online, so basically you were wrong again, they are NOT touting the "directionality" of the cable as a feature - although they should so people like me know why one end is red and the other is black (the device to short it out is not that obvious, I did not see it at all until I looked very closely).
