There's a new Toft console being develped. Check this out.
Looks like it's gonna fall in Mackie 8-bus price range. I don't know how they will do all they claim (80B type EQ's on every channel!) at this price point, but it looks like something to look forward to for project studio guys.

By making it only a sixteen-channel board and making it in China.

I'm looking forward to hearing how it sounds...

Yeah, maybe there's a " full" 24/32 channel later down the road! Doesn't expanders add noise? This is probably good for those needing a"small footprint" front end for their daws, PT , etc., but for those of us that's still using the board as a mixer, hopefully there will be an option for more "full" channel consoles! Hope so...
Alan can we expect a 24 ch A-range in the making as well? cos if you were able to pull it off in a good way and at an affrodable price.. albeint MUCH MORE than the 80b type... I think that it may well set you up for a nice retirement!

I talked to Malcolm Toft at Musikmesse yesterday. Really nice guy!
The plans he has for the console are very exciting! Dunno how much i can disclose, so i'll leave the revealing of specs up to himself or somebody from PMI
I'll forward him the url of this thread. Maybe he'll join this thread thumbsup
Like DrDM I had the pleasure of talking at some length to Malcom Toft at the Musik Messe. I'm pleased to report he is a complete gentleman with some fascinating insights into the Recording Arts from gear to performances. He has some great ideas about the console but I think it would be better if he revealed them when he's ready. Overall I was very impressed and I'm looking forward to the console.

Hey Jam, I know you say you can't say to much, but when Malcom say "console" do he mean full like: meterbridge, tabletop, etc. or is this rack mount?...Thanks..!
Sorry but I didn't see the console/mixer/summer so anything I say is just hearsay. DrDM has emailed Malcom and asked him to join this thread, I'll do the same. That way this doesn't become a vapourware discussion.
Yeah I just want to know the size of the thing to know if its worth waiting for. I have a control 24 and wont be able to fit a huge console, but a side car type thing would work well.
The end of the year is sooo far away. I have money now, waitings going to be hard.

I saw and held actual size drawings of it in my hands this afternoon on the PMI stand at Sounds Expo show in London...
Then Alan Hyatt zapped me with one of those 'men in black' lazers, and I forgot it all!
I had a good chat with Malcolm about an A Range that was at Matrix studio, London ...where I interned at in the 80's and where it might have gotten to..

You are correct. Mr Toft is a complete gentleman and was very generous with his time. I accosted him over some ancient old desk I needed help with and he was very helpful.
Then he showed me the new one........
It is as decribed and to be honest it is a joy to see something designed by some one who knows engineering both from an audio and technical side. It looks very promising and will be available later this year.
Glad your camera wasn't affected by the MIB-lightning
Great, seems lika a console I actually could fit into my work space. Hope it'll fit my wallet by the time it hits the street.
That was the idea with this console. Make a really good quality mixer with enough features to make it really useful, yet make it compact so it fits easily into limited space.
This is the first of what we hope will be a series of compact mixers. Some will have more features, a different type of EQ and perhaps a bit bigger. Anyway, we are happy with our first offering and look forward to its intro at AES New York.
That drawing looks remarkably like the little 16x8 Trident VFM that I had for several years. But then there are only so many ways to lay out an 8 buss console.........
