Yamaha HS drivers are unshielded. My friend had that issue with a pair of HS8 in his home studio. WiFi router in the other room caused space noises from whatever speaker was placed there.

My HS5 only hissed very slightly with my ear 1 foot from the tweeter. My most recent Hs8 pair had bad filter caps in the power supply and the transformer had mains hum audible through the woofers.

So my listening distance would roughly be around 4/4.5 ft away. Roughly 50-51 inches.

That's a little more than a meter, but would the hiss be noticeable around this distance?

You should be totally fine at this distance.

The only hiss that happens is when Snidely Whiplash twirls his mustache and ties Nell to the train tracks - the audience responds

Im about to get get some hs8's from a guy locally, is fixing something like filter caps very costly? Any idea?

Iv never gotten monitors used so I have no idea whether its a good idea for or not. I have a someone noisy house I wonder if the unshielded thing is a true issue, I guess if it doesnt harm the speaker that could be ok considering how clear these speakers are. If I dont get em used I probably wont get em ever lol

Just get them! They're awesome. You're not going to beat them for under a thousand dollars without a sick sale, someone going bankrupt, or needing money pronto for drug debts.

Iv heard the kali lp6 vs the Yamaha Hs7 on a YouTube video shootout where they both had their own mixes and the Kalis were not as defined in low mids. Iv also heard that from other shootout video comments about the Kalis, I was considering them aswell and I heard yes they are good intro monitors but ultimately idk how much better, if at all they are to yamahas in terms of instrument seperation. Those arent the exact model youre talking about though, but worth mentioning Since I heard those complaints about the lp6 and 8s

The Kalis are dark. The HS8 is more neutral up top but a bit grainy and a little Yamaha harsh. It has a better midrange than the LP8. The harshness is nothing compared to Genelec and Focal metal tweeters. The HS8 is the most common monitor I see in smaller studios. It works and translates.

TBH if the Kalis were as accurate and had as good detail separate across their range then id go with them to avoid unnecessary harshness BUT from what I heard, and what other people have said too, around the low mids, it just gets a little fuzzy and the Yamaha does actually seem to stay tighter and keep things separate . It also shows a clanky string noise upfront where the Kalis hid it much more. In a perfect world we could get a monitor as defined as the Yamaha but with a darker tone that sacrificed no clarity but I havent seen it

You can. They're called ATC. They really are that good if you can get used to the bass. If you're used to NS10s, that's easy hahahaha. There's not a lot in between Yamaha and ATC I've found to be so easy to mix on without caveats.

The KRK 6000/VXT6/V6S4 are also Yamaha like (Why I use them but I will probably eventually go ATC) but MUCH WARMER and not as defined in the midbass as the HS8. The new Kevlar tweeters are a bit too smooth too but not as dark as Kali and Quested. The other sizes with better bass have suckout :(

The Quested H108 are like darker, ported, more detailed, bigger NS10s. But they are also a bit harsh like NS10s in the mids. They're about 2k a pair.

But if they arent define down low then they arent up to par! And I guess I should have mentioned monitors not too expensive.

But the In8 are different the the Lp8. I’ve heard the In8 have a flatter sound than the LP6’s.

manufacturer Kali you better make a line on the basis of amplifiers "AB" that would not hiss. smell yourself and other such inventors.

It's a ground loop destroyer, the issue with speakers is not ground loop.

Besides I don't notice the whine anymore. Just saw this thread and realized I haven't noticed any whine for like months. My ears learned to filter it out quickly.

If no ground loop, how do you explain that the monitors work like radio waves receiver?

My HS8 also whine from the PC videocard. They whine from everything. If a squirrel farts on the tree, they whine about it too.

You are wrong. Shielding has nothing to do with that. The noises are spreading over electricity. You need galvanic separation. Use what I recommended and enjoy the silence. I am 99.99% sure. Everything else is waste of time

That too. But when my phone rings nearby or sends messages, the whine goes up. Bad shielding too.

I do not think so. If you have troubles with ground, your speakers works like electromagnetic antenna

The Yamahas whine at my place. The RCF Ayra Pro at exactly the same place connected with the same wires don't whine...

I went through several pairs of monitors in the past few years. Same interfaces, same computers, same cables, same outlets. Only Yamahas whine. They whine everywhere, they're the oldest pair I still keep, and I used them in several locations, they always whine. No other monitors do.

The whine is the part of Yamaha's signature sound.

And that is the reason, why I recommend galvanic separation.

If I see that thing on ebay for $10 or less shipped, I'll get it. Just for experiment sake.

Then I wonder why the galvanic separation isn't needed for my new speakers...

Because your new speaker might already have one inside
