How is that working out? Are the two Yamaha monitors different enough to give you a useful second reference? Which do you listen to the most?

Well I am still in the tracking stage at the moment. I haven't mixed anything yet. I am doing a marathon of drum tracking right now before I start to add my guitar and vocal parts and the bass, percussion, etc. So I am kind of going to be in tracking mode until a ton of stuff is done, then in mixing mode, etc.

When I get to mixing mode I can tell you. Right now I am just using the HS7 to hear stuff back so haven't really had much of a need to compare and use both pairs yet and also so busy and had no chance to.

We've been getting 3 or 4 drum tracks done per day in sessions of just a few hours. So we are on a roll with that as in the past few weeks we've literally done drum tracks for about 20 songs so far.

I will try to remember to check back when I have started mixing and let you know.

HS7's are awesome , just watch the placement for the stereo field. They tend to have a narrow horizontal spread.

I used to point them inwards (the "triangle"), now I have them facing straight. Seems better that way.

200hz and 155hz are going to be your biggest bass issues in your room. But I think that if you throw some treatment in there it is doable. Get some 4’ (better if deeper) bass traps for your corners and some clouds. Then throw up the panels you have on the 4 walls for the higher frequencies. I’m thinking you won’t have like +/- 3 db but it should be a fun little room. You can attenuate the bass on the back of the HS7 and make it tighter too. Sure it’ll be lively but what the hell?

You know…. I noticed the same thing; I have mine at a really shallow angle but yeah they are magic little mid-range checkers. I sat there and A/B’d them against NS-10s for like 2 hours before I just pulled the trigger on them.
