I have both analog and digital delay units: MXR Carbon Copy and the ubiquitous Boss DD-7, which is used by countless pros and heard on countless records.
They behave very differently. Analogs have more limits. But they are warmer and will self- oscillate a little over 1/2 way through the repeat cycle. Watch out! If plugged directly into the amp it can be dangerous to the amp. Use the effects loop and you will get some musical and crazy sounds. They also get a nice smearing effect when the "mix" knob is used.
Digitals are more flexible and won't self oscillate unless its designed to mimic it.
Just got to the store and try them!
