In the market for a delay pedal. There are so many that I'm having a hard time choosing. I've been looking at the aqua puss and the carbon copy. Not sure if there are others I should look into as well. Help!

One of my most highly recommended pedals is one that's built close by in Richardson, Texas by my friend Dale Diamond.

The Soundsubstance Waitstates. It's a cross between Analog and Digital, and can do everything from complex modulation delays w/ expression capabilities to simple slapback.

I've used it alot on pretty much every recording/performance I've done, it's so versatile and useful.

Delay Pedal

are the Moog MoogerFooger MF-104, 104Z and 104sd, but they cost a hefty chunk of change for sure. The Waitstates is a close second.

Strymon Timeline must be up there - best delay I've had, and I've had a lot over the years!

I no longer look at pedals for digital delay/echo...

Now for analog, nothing beats a good DMM with NOS chips

Wamper faux analog echo is the best I've found.

Best? Don't know about that. The CC and AP are sort of opposites. The CC rolls off highs in the repeat loop. The AP rolls off lows. The CC is good for a softer slapback, and also has that modulation in the clock. The AP is better for a more surf-type sound.

Depends what type of delay you are after... Can you point to some artists that achieve the tones you are looking for?

I'm enjoying my TC Flashback delay also the PGS version with the extra presets is good
The Hardwire Delay/Looper is very good too.

+1 on the Eventide TimeFactor.
Not cheap though.
I love my MXR Carbon Copy.

The best is obviously a subjective term but these are at the top of the heap.

That there will be a new Analog delay from Moog.

The 104M, Midi Syncable, has a least six preset waveforms, external feedback loop,spillover footswitch, and tap tempo for LFO or for the Delays!

I'm going to have to sell a kidney!

My DL8 pedal has proven to be quite useful in mixing when I want dirt.
Soundwise and stylewise there might be bigger fish in the sea though.

There are so many choices and the question you have to ask yourself first is what do you want out of it? Features? Tone? Delay times? Analog or digital?

I love my Line 6 DD4 with the expression pedal. Lots of people don't like them, but I see them on TONS of rigs from all kinds bands, so I know I'm not the only one who loves it. I don't look for warmth from a delay pedal. I look for how many crazy sounds I can get out of one. Time based pedals are the only ones I prefer to be digital. For everything else, I'm all analog. But that's just my take on it. At any rate, try one out. They're everywhere for a reason.

I have both analog and digital delay units: MXR Carbon Copy and the ubiquitous Boss DD-7, which is used by countless pros and heard on countless records.
They behave very differently. Analogs have more limits. But they are warmer and will self- oscillate a little over 1/2 way through the repeat cycle. Watch out! If plugged directly into the amp it can be dangerous to the amp. Use the effects loop and you will get some musical and crazy sounds. They also get a nice smearing effect when the "mix" knob is used.
Digitals are more flexible and won't self oscillate unless its designed to mimic it.

Providence Chrono Delay.

I never caught on to the analog delay sound like the CC and others. I always thought that delay should be crisp and clean sounding. So I like the digital delays better and I've always felt the DL7 was one of the cleanest ones but really love my TC Flashback the best so far.

After getting out and playing some again this year rather than sitting at home pretending to be a musician I have gotten rid of all my complicated and expensive pedals cos I just don't think they made a big enough difference

So I'm a +1 for the MXR carbon copy. Gets the job done, easy and cheap to replace if lost, stolen or broken and easy to use, only 3 knobs and they are big enough to adjust with your toe while you are playing

don't laugh, but the TC Electronic Flashback has become a favorite - the tape setting in particular. Worth trying. For a digital pedal, it does analog fairly well. I use it for longer delays and sold my Boss DD6.

I wanted to buy the Carbon Copy, but it didn't do it for me. Delays are fairly personal tone wise.

I also have an '83 Ibanez Analog Delay that was the 2nd pedal I ever bought that's still on my board for short slap, and love that sound.

i will second the TC flashback. There is a lot of bang for your buck going on. Best clean delay using TC2290 setting. The mod delay is excellent. Love this little pedal. I bought it to compliment my memory man hazari and its been working out really well.

If tone trumps functionality in your order of priorities, the Maxon AD 900 has the creamiest, butteriest delay tone I've ever heard come out of an analog delay pedal.

Although they're not easy to find these days and go for a premium price.

i've heard nothing but positive things about the original Flashback. Concidering all the functions the price tag is also very nice.

I have an original flashback and I love it. Some nice sounds out of that small box. Not sure I'd buy the x4 because it's so large, I would never use it (I like simple pedalboards).

The fulltone is prohibitively expensive though
