i'm looking for a basic looper pedal with just average specs:
* 1 loop is enough
* overdub is not a must have
* midi sync is mandatory!
* i don't mind a stereo signal but don't need it either
* inbuilt effects will not be used
* must be a hardware solution!
i really need a basic looper to go with my groovebox...

I could think of a few basic loopers until you stated "* midi sync is mandatory!". That usually only comes along with lots of other bells and whistles, and therefore it's not a "basic looper pedal" any more. Cant go wrong with any of the Dittos, but they don't come with MIDI except the Ditto X4 which is the most expensive/full of bells and whistles model...

Seems like Midi does not qualify as basic anymore...

For guitar stuff midi never has been basic.

But the simplest with midi probably are the TC ditto X4 and the Red Panda ones.

I have no experience with either one.

I like the ditto x4 a lot. It’s pretty simple and straightforward despite it being “feature rich”. The pigtronix infinity also handles midi sync but can be fairly pricey. Maybe check out ehx also?

If you aren’t too tied to your groove box might I recommend the digitech trio plus. It’s biggest flaw imo is it can’t sync with anything but I like it a lot better than the groovebox thing. You’re can always sample into your daw or another looper if you wanted more sync options. I’m crossing my fingers that they add midi sync at some point. As is it’s pretty fun but add sync and it becomes a serious tool IMO.
