Acidlab Miami by fxs
Acidlab Miami is a Roland TR 808 clone, it has been so successful, that it's always out of stock,
After looking for one for about a year, I managed to find one in Finland, bought it w/o its PSU, and took me some time to make it run,at first I thought that it was the psu, I had a 14 vac transformer especially made, as thatΒ΄s not a commercial voltage, in the end got in touch with another owner here in Chile, went to visit him with my fluke meter to check the original PSU, but the real problem was that the machine was frozen, so he reset the machine by holding a button and turning it on, and there it was my Miami working,
After getting back to my studio, I put the machine to its paces, turned it on to hear a very good accomplished TR 808 sound, this comparison is from memories, 80's memories, and I don't have an original to compare it, what I really like though, is that the BD is a bit more controlled and thus usable, I instantly made some dub patterns, no manual needed, at my age I dread manuals, while they can save you, they sure take lots of time that can be better used making music, you got to love the manual as is only 20 pages,
The sounds are classic and inspiring. While this is no dessert island drum machine, I'll rather have my Jomox X09 in that island, Miami is a one trick pony, amazing trick though.
Having a large collection of analog gear both synths and Studio stuff, is like having 50 children that can get sick any minute, here in Chile techs are scary,( I'm abut to send a Lexicon 480l to USA for service) so I have to put reliability very high on my priorities, maybe purists will slay Miami sounds, but if you want a reliable easy to use clone, for 1/3 of the classic unit, Miami is for you......if you can get one!!!!
