Hello, thanks for reading.
I will be finishing up a long awaited stereo guitar tube amp build. It will be a fairly clean pedal platform, 20 watts per channel for small to medium venues with a band.
In considering miking possibilities the idea of using my omni pair along with some kind of isolator interested me. The amp has 2 12" speakers side by side mounted on the same baffle. The idea is to mic each speaker separately and pan each out L and R through the PA system.
I was wondering if I could build a sort of Jecklin Disc that might position each mic in front of its associated speaker with the benefit of having a bit of baffling between the speakers to maybe minimize bleed from each speaker to the opposite microphone.
Do you see any issues that could prop up with a tecnique like this? Of course, I will also try just the rudimental Shure SM58's positioned to reject as much of the other speaker as possible while still making a good capture of its assigned speaker.
Any comments would surely be interesting,
Thank you,
Phil Donovan (guitarist for New englands "Four-on-the-Floor".
of course things depend on whether you can insert mono in/stereo out efx via loop but in any case, you won't get enough separation with baffled omnis and the stereo field will not be wide enough to justify the pain.
IF you want to hard-pan the stereo guitar signal to l/r (not sure how well this will fit into the soundstage of the rest of the band), i suggest you use a baffle between two directional mics.
[i'd use two different mics with different frequency response (and maybe even different patterns)]
