Beautiful playing and recording Jim ! For my taste the flute reverb drives a small ‘credibility wedge’ against me fully believing that they’re both playing together in the same space, but then I tend to prefer a dryer, more direct sound mostly…and that’s what your harp capture reveals nicely.

I’m sure that lovers of this folk style will appreciate the full expressive sound you’ve captured here very much….well done 👍 !

Thanks for posting that Jim - a nice holiday treat! I was just listening to an old James Galway Christmas LP...now that was some 'in-credible' reverb!

I guess flute reverb can be an artistic choice ...

Maybe that’s the key….Christmas LP’s are the traditional gateway to incredulity in reverb ! Here’s my (rather insignificant) contribution to the season…in miking decorations

Indeed…and next year I’ll definitely put more effort in: expect to see ribbons, bows, tinsel, reindeer…maybe even a Decca Christmas Tree !

One wise man per mic ? Manger-crib at the base, star at the apex, ribbons and Holly and ivy, dangling baubles, frosty branches, flashing lights….no shortage of ways to get a Decca Tree ‘in character’ at Christmas…transforms an ugly piece of support hardware into something much more acceptable (not to mention keeping the audience at a respectful distance from it) !

Wild - 40cm AB pair of km184s on harp about 3ft up and 3ft out looking straight at the soundboard, and XY mk4s on flute about 4ft out. Players facing each other in the studio maybe 10ft apart.
