In the studio, I run a lot of stuff through 1176, ect.. on the way in. Do most of you track clean for live stuff and save all the compression and such for the studio during mixdown?
I keep it clean on the way in. Trying to remove effects later is not a good option. Besides, on location monitoring is rarely as good as in studio so it's hard to accurately assess added effects on location.

The only time I've processed anything while recording on location was when I was mixing straight to stereo, and even then I was more conservative than I would be in a studio.
Mostly clean direct in, occasionally a vocal spot with uncertain control/expression will go thru a FMR RNC in 'Really Nice' mode, with perhaps a max of 2dB gain reduction. Working like this it's very transparent, virtually unnoticeable in any way.
Nothing between the preamps and the recorder here, on straight recordings.
Like Plush sez, this is different for live broadcast where compression and reverb (Bricasti M7) is used carefully and moderately to smooth of the overall sound and make certain that no OL peaks get to the air.
Depends. I went to a Bad Company show a year ago and they not only recorded the entire show, it was mixed, comped, reverbed and finished CD's were handed to us on the way out. Sounded great, pro, done. I don't know how they did that so fast and got all those discs burned.
Nothing on input since switching from analog to digital. As others note, if doing a broadcast or otherwise creating a final product, then FX get put in on the way out to the master recorder, but the multitrack is left pure. I will always put the live stereo mix on a couple of tracks in the multitrack project as well so I have it for reference when remixing later. Sometimes when listening to that in better acoustic conditions I'm surprised by how good it sounds, but normally I find ways to improve it with remixing.
