(Edit: Think I might've posted this in the wrong forum, sorry if I have!)
I have looked online for studio dry takes but they tend to be semi dry, being tracked with a compressor or something like that. Addiitonally, these are always from great studios which isn't necessarily achieveable at home.
I have had some bass traps built in my room, we do not have complete coverage but it is better than nothing. I'm recording in to an OC18 which feeds into my UAD twin. Whilst this isn't necessarily abbey road, I feel like I should be able to get at least half way there with my tools. But with my inexperience, I'm falling short.
My dry vocal is extremely boxy, in the 100-400hz range. I personally believe this is down to two factors:
- My room simply not being good enough
- Poor vocal technique. I have quite a deep voice and perhaps there is some proximity effect at play.
The issue is, i don't really have a frame of reference.
I have uploaded my dry take, as well as my attempt to mix it. I'm by no means a pro so I will accept any advice on the mix itself, and also, any insight on whether the take is showing signs of a bad recording.
Thanks all
