I started out with Reaper 5 for a couple of months then was unable to resolve some issues. So I switched to Reason 10 Intro and I like it for the most part although I'm having some difficulty with simple things since I installed my audio interface (Scarlett 2i2). Playback is erratic and so is recording albeit occasionally.
The Scarlett came with a free copy of Live 10 Lite and it see
ms that nearly every EDM production video I watch is using Abelton.
I'll also say that I'm still very new in my endeavor and don't have a huge frame of reference. But looking at Abelton, it seems to be a bit easier to manipulate although I had some initial bumps getting my VSTs & Sounds to recognize. Conversely, that was the easiest task to complete in the other two apps.
Anyway, I'd greatly appreciate some of your thoughts and ideas / pros and cons / and/or suggestions about the 3 and which you think is most Noob friendly.
Thanks!
The best one is the one I am using
Seriously that is almost an impossible question to answer for someone else BECAUSE everybody has different cognitive abilities SO different DAW workflows organization and nomenclature will strike everybody differently as far as more or less intuitive
Also you might indicate what kind of recording you actually do
All audio
All midi
Primarily audio with maybe some midi
Primarily midi with maybe som audio etc.etc.etc.
I will mention only the ones I use or have used .
For me primarily Audio with some midi ::
Pro tools is the most intuitive in setup, recording, and editing audio, and contrary to popular opinion is also fairly intuitive for basic midi recording and editing .
And the good news is you can try a free BUT limited version called "Pro Tools Intro" to see how you get on with it .
I personally found Reaper to very cumbersome and unintuitive and the GUI to be antiquated in looks and feel . But it is very processor efficient and many users love it and view it's user customizable features as a real bonus ..
Studio One is fairly advanced in drag and drop features and is a very popular DAW
Logic is a stalwart and a very popular Mac users DAW choice
Reason is very effects oriented which are highly customizable but it's audio editing is cumbersome IMO .
