Joking aside, I'm not the target market for this product --- nobody who wants to sell me stuff would use Dream Theater as a pitching point --- but the demos sound super-strident and almost day-glo to me.

This is curious.

Waves, if you're reading this, I encourage you to post simpler demos demonstrating the qualities of the filters and oscillators.

The demo is total crap (to me). Maybe the synth sounds better than the demo.

I could tell a dozen VAs that sound better to me in a second. (according to what I hear from the demo)

Who would prefer this "crap" to the D16 LuSH-101 or U-he DIVA for example?

Even NI Pro 53 from 10 years ago sounds better.


Sorry Waves. But WHY?

IMHO it is a very nice synth, demos don't do it any justice. It is not a Diva or Lush substitution, but IMHO it will easily replace Sylenth1 for me...and this is a great thing, because I really loved Sylenth1 but it became abandonware.

Sounds quite nice after 30 minute testing. I could use this, but I'm really not sure if I want/need more of these.

The "accelerating" knobs takes a bit of getting used to. Moving mouse slowly does fine turn and faster movement moves the knob faster. Feels strange to me.

The fx don't have any settings? Just one default reverb feels quite restrictive, not that I ever use synths own reverb. Unison is a on/off thing also. Delay has some settings, and it's quite ok sounding.

Included EQ feels pretty usable, altho it's got fixed freqs too, but they seem to be thought of and sounds quite usable actually.

Can't turn off steps when arpeggio is set to up/down/etc, that's a drag, would've been fun. I find the step seq quite restrictive compared to rivals.

Envelope shape seems like a usable feature, haven't seen one before. Really nice.

VCO sounds much smoother than DCO, cool to have a choice there.

The sound is actually very smooth and creamy.

I compared it just randomly to Steinberg Retrologue, TAL-U-NO LX, D16 LuSH-101 and Element seems to have some Rolandish sound (this coming from someone who has never used hardware Roland). It's not quite as refined as LuSH-101 and the knobs don't feel tight at all, but the sound is nice and the VCO's are smooth.

Technically doesn't bring anything new to table, but I've grown to appreciate good sound over specs. And this does sound pretty good. After using primarily VCO's I'd say the sound is the opposite of tight, all sounds I got so far were quite "sloppy". That's the feel I also get when twiddling the knobs, so it may be a bit premature to say definately.

You mentioned it sounds Rolandish, I think they modeled the look after that as well. The first thing it reminded me of was the old Jupiter 8, etc., in terms of looks.

That demo. Huh? Wow...

In the worst demos department I think we can nominate them along with NI...

I really see this as a Mercury "maintenance" plugin to keep us user calm ....

Just watched the demo : sounds are not hyped imho ....thoses will sit easy on a mix unlike some synths around ....some synths spitss some hot sounds bass heavy and complexe that you will clean anyway in the mixing stage ...

So my feeling : seems not that bad ....they should only use it for synths not drums ...on the video ..

EDIT : by the way if they starts the same amoung of emulation as they did for FX , it's gonna be fun !!

Usually just a pair of C451's when I used to set them up for her.

Element is ok. It's not a great sounding synth, IMO ... rather plastic and weak ... and I do NOT like the effects. However, it does do a rather nice job when you get it grimy, and I can easily imagine it filling a niche. The interface is very nice to use.

I wouldn't pay for it, to be honest, but as a freebie I can easily find it a good home. ^.^

I'm glad I read through to this comment because I was about to say the same thing.

For instance, NI's demo sounds of their Abbey Road 60's Drummer sound absolutely awful. Canned, terrible, dull, and not something I would want to use at all. However, in use, I've found the AR60's Drummer to be astonishingly high quality, and have recommended it many times.

Same goes for many, many, many "waves" products. I don't go by their demos - I get the plug and use the crap out of it... then make a judgement.

Having said that - I know nothing about synthesis, so I'm probably not going to try it. (it was mentioned earlier in this discussion that this may be a good plugin for someone 'starting out' with synthesis - I may give it a shot for that reason alone, since I'm the quintessential noob in that area.)
