The later is something really handy no doubt. You can have templates ready made but I have to agree it's not the same.

As for stability I and many others don't seem to be having any problems with our current setups.

Like I wrote before it's not because you have plug-ins available that you're going to use them every time.

Part of the issues you mention are a result of poor decision making for the task at hand.

I do less live recording now than before and although it looks like a good software I can tell you that I'm not going to buy if for any future projects.
But hey, everyone works different and what maters is that you get the job done right.

Soooooo.... What is the real difference between using something like Reaper to this for tracking a live performance? The console connectivity and what? less features? Reaper loads up on my MBP in seconds with a default template in place to record. I just hit record and thats it.

I don't get the idea of having less features as a feature. If you don't want to use something don't.

If it were´t for my tight schedule right now, I'd seriously dedicate a full month to be a shortcut ninja with Reaper. (actually, I've been saying this to myself for a full year now... got to get that sorted)

It is a bomb, but I am not yet confident enough to run a session with it. My bad, not Reaper's.

BUT...

Nuendo 3 had the pre-record buffer, and it was customizable. And that they removed it in v.4. Yep, now that I recall, the first time I tried pulling back on the wave file and it did not budge, it almost threw me into a rage. It seriously saved my ass, not in Live situations, but in the studio, and have wonderful album add-ons because of it, and "one in a million shot" takes that got salvaged.

I absolutely HATE marketing hype - and crippeling iterations in new version.

I suggest you guys actually take a closer look to the product.

Most DAWs are relatively cluttered, and even die-hard Nuendo or PT users who are recording live on a daily basis are screaming for a dedicated live recording package without the bells and whistles of a DAW.

* Nuendo Live is completely streamlined for recording. Take dialog, 1 button I/O setup, track naming, it all is FAST. This is what the market wants.

* the market this is aimed at, would pay 5 times for this package if needed.

So yes, you can record with your DAW. But don't bash a product until you fully understand its target market.

It's in Cubase 6 as well . . customisable from 0 to 60 seconds.

So, I've tried the demo and I must say I really love it. If you are happy with Reaper, then ok. But as user of Nuendo (in my studio next to my PT HD) I really like the idea of just opening the Neundo Live session and prepare everything for post. Naming scheme, colours etc. everything is taken with the project file. I whish I could open it in PT as well

I don't give a sh** on the number of features. It is important HOW it helps me during the live recording session. And it really does. Try it.

Agreed. I downloaded it today and it's really simple and fast. When I do live recording this would be the obvious choice for me.

If, by mistake, you close the project without saving, all the audio files are still kept. These are the kind of features that are really good.

I can't seem to find enough documentation on the actual connection to the desk - it seems to run via cat-5 cable. Also, i'd like to see some more info on integration with other systems/desks.

I'm probably going to do an album and play live again this year. If it's easy to connect to a variety of systems it's going to make my own live recordings really simple and reliable I'd purchase it in a flash.

Also, the e-licenser can be done straight to hard drive so it isn't necessary to use the USB thingy..

You can authorize your drive - no need to carry a Dongle... I guess it works in a similar way to Waves.

If you mean Dante: yes, it is CAT5, basically a simple network setup. It requires one piece of Dante hardware which can function as clock master. Then you can add as many devices in a setup - even fully redundant - if you wish.

I suspect one of the catalysts for this product was the resource hit caused by the idiotic oversized peak file issue that crippled the regular Cubendo in live situations a while back , that forced a couple of higher end Nuendo users to abandon it for basic live recording.

Yes I understand that it has a far simpler and dedicated work flow for Live recording, much like Presonus Capture , at least Presonus call it for what it is, not "Studio One Live "... :-)

sorry just to clarify, if you use a cat5 connection to the desk then you dont need to use a soundcard and audio just goes straight from the desk to your harddisk?

Recently a friend of mine used Dante for recording (though not for a live rec) and it worked quite stable.

Great product with CL5

Just finished a gig with 3 artists. Recorded all sound checks, once artists left carried on with virtual sound check with Nuendo playback. All 61 tracks performed impeccably.

Only downside: CL5 only has 64 Dante AVB i/o system wide. If you use all 64 outs to record there are no more Dante streams available to use the outputs of the stage racks, and a rather annoying limitation.

Another one: the custom fader banks are not stored with the scenes.

No 2trk returns to monitor section....

That hurts.

Still a wonderful product for the price.

- Its an old post, i know, but just helping out the next guy that gets here! Actually you can do the recording direct from the RIO stage units via Dante Controller, and that way you still have the CL's Dante outputs for stage outputs etc.... Also FYI ( It would record with gain and HPF information only from the stage boxes... Have fun ...
