Looks good. I’ll give it another try. What has improved since v1? I’d really love to actually buy it rather than rent it though…

This version is focused more on subjective perception of the sound than technicality. Special attention was made for 16bit cd mastering so that they sound as good on consumer grade playback equipment. Also SRC is the next product in the line that will be added to the same license bundle. Would you be interested in 10years rent?

Yeah renting a dither plugin makes no sense. You’re going to make a lot more money if you sell a perpetual version.

Would I be interested in 10 years rent? No. That’s exactly why I don’t like rentals. This is $50AUD a year, so after 10 years I would have paid $500 for one dither plugin. Do you mean that this would be the cost to buy it upfront? $500… 😵

We don't have egregious financial plans. What we have is passion and stubbornness to make it work just for the few users that will be using it.

Seriously you’re shooting yourselves in the foot. Charge a high price if needed but “renting” a plugin is ridiculous.

Purpose of this product is not to earn money but to build a community of happy professionals that will use it every day and it will help them to get more jobs and have better end products. Price is in the range of High End plugins and I know that many people/studios cannot afford it. At least you can test it for fun.

With all due respect, it sounds like you’re just alienating the potential community that you could build. Look at this (and your previous) thread and see what all your potential customers / community are telling you. Are you totally unwilling to have a perpetual license option?

Would you be happy to purchase perpetual license and next year when there will be improved version or another similar product to pay it again? How many different versions of the same popular product you payed in the past?

I’ve paid for plenty of upgrades before (as long as the price was fair). As the Waves debacle proved, people are just really uneasy with the idea of ONLY having the option to rent/subscribe.

I also totally understand that you’re probably thinking ahead to development costs to keep this thing going for a while. You deserve to be paid for your work if you continue to maintain things. I think if you keep the prices fair and that you seem like a stand-up person, you’ll find that people are more than willing to support you.

Just my two cents, but I think a lot of people here would agree. I want to see you succeed!

Do R&D for some years and sell it premium or sell the flavor of the day for cheap.

I like to make products as good as possible. What is possible depends on the state of the art in the DSP and my knowledge. There is always room for improvement if you care enough. For the time it is the best that I could make it. Have you ever payed for improved version of the plugin?

How much did all upgrades cost you?

Hang on, let me go tally up all the upgrades I’ve ever paid.

I’ll give you one (on the more expensive end). I recently paid around $80 to go from Fabfilter Pro-Q 3 to 4. It’s quite a big upgrade though.

I’ll let others chime in here, but to give you a data point of what I think a tool like this would be worth. If I found it did something I liked over my other dither plugins, I might be willing to pay up to around $59 for a perpetual license. And if there’s some kind of decent upgrade in the future maybe around $19?

I’ve bought several v2/v3 plugin upgrades myself. If I use a plugin often, I’ll pay for the improvements and to support the company. FabFilter, Soothe, and Harrison Mixbus are examples, but fair upgrade pricing is key. I get that a dithering plugin upgrade might be a tough sell, but restricting access while claiming to build a community doesn’t add up.

You posted this to a forum for feedback, only to ignore all the feedback. Your business model is DOA. I challenge you to name another audio plugin company successfully implementing a rent-only for a product. You don't believe in benchmarking, or do you think you're Adobe? I'm an Izotope user (and Beta tester) and they drop newer versions of their products almost every year, with no free upgrade path. As much as people complain about the upgrade prices, they still sell very well. There are also companies that drop free upgrades for previous owners only. I think you forget that your revenue goal, going forward, should be primarily focused in new business, and only secondary in return and continual. There's enough new business potential to be perpetual AND even offer loyalty or complimentary upgrades as well...this why EVERYONE else has done so successfully.

By the time your whatever revision comes onto the market next year, how many more new potential buyers (or even unexposed pre-existing potential buyers) do you think there will be? Answer: tons...Do you not have a growth model?

We aren't all just audio nerds, who know nothing about business. You may be a coding genius, but don't think that savyness is an automatic crossover into smart business acumen. Listen to what the people are telling you.

That's why I am suggesting you to do proper R&D if you want to drop something with premium price. You are competing with enterprise entities and other indie devs. Take your time.

My last upgrades; none of them has been mandatory to keep on using the version I already had:

- 25€ to upgrade 16 plugins and 5 new ones, after 3 years. incidentally includes 4 dithering options
- 0€ for Sonnox after 8-9 years; incidentally includes different dithering options
- 0€ for Melda plugins, they offer lifetime updates
- 0€ for Logic Pro, after 10 years maybe? incidentally includes POWr and UV22HR
- 20€ for Flux Studio Bundle after 6 years
- around 20€ for SounfToys after 8-9 years
- 1,66$ / month to support Airwindow on Patreon. He has something to say about dithering...

Of those only Sonnox and Flux had no new feature due to upgrade, but improved system compatibility.

So in my personal experience upgrades are:
- no mandatory, no recursive payment
- either free or cheap

Initially paid 20€ for Linearize in 2020, received a free uprade to LinPro about a year later and further free updates to Mac Silicon.

Because I´m always interested in new technology and "potentially" better tools / solutions.

Working for me doesn´t mean there´s no room for improvement but the more I read, the more I´m sure I don´t want to do business with you.

Thanks for the reasonable limitations of the demo. I will give this a try. Honestly, it's not too much for a mastering engineer to pay of it is the best of the best. That said they will also not appreciate wondering what happens if the company that makes the plugin is not longer around at some point in the future - especially if it is the best out there. ; )

That is my biggest fear for any plugins I want to buy that do not have a perpetual license: if the company goes out of business, I have no way to use the plugin, even if I am willing to pay to do so.

blind testing on an unfinished track with Mozzaik via pre and post ablm easy guess each time when pre or post.

sounds more polished in the pocket with the dither at 16 bit
