Dear dSoniq Team,

I appreciate the incredible work you’ve done with Realphones 2 in providing accurate reference environments for studio monitoring. I would like to suggest a proposal that will be relevant to producers in genres such as psytrance, progressive psytrance, and psytech—that are predominantly played at outdoor festivals and open-air venues.

One major challenge in psytrance and outdoor EDM production is that most producers mix on headphones or nearfield monitors, while their music is ultimately played on large outdoor sound systems—especially Funktion-One, the industry standard for these events.

To address this, I’d like to propose a new set of reference environments in Realphones 2 that simulate how music translates in different outdoor event settings. These environments could include:

1. Large Festival Stage (5K-10K people)
• Long-throw Funktion-One Evo 7/6 or F221 subwoofer system.
• Crowd absorption effects (bodies absorb high frequencies).
• Open-air reverberation and dispersion.

2. Mid-Sized Outdoor Venue (1K-2K people)
• More contained Evo X or Res 4 with F218 subs.
• Tighter bass response, some natural reflections from surroundings.

3. Intimate Outdoor Stage (300-600 people)
• Smaller Funktion-One Compact or Res 2 system.
• Higher stereo width perception and closer bass impact.

Why This Would Benefit Realphones Users
• Psytrance and psytech are heavily dependent on bass clarity, stereo imaging, and transient impact, which behave differently in outdoor settings compared to clubs or studios.
• Producers could pre-test their mixes in Realphones to avoid surprises at live shows.
• Most existing Realphones environments focus on indoor spaces, but outdoor festival sound behaves very differently.

I believe this addition could be a game-changer for EDM producers that often play their music in an outdoor setting.

Realphones 2 also includes the ability to create your headphone correction profiles. You can look up measurements and equalization settings for your headphones from Oratory1990, squig.link, and other sources. You can import them into Realphones using the User EQ function (only available in Realphones 2 Professional and Ultimate)

I hope you do because that’s the only think stopping me from buying realphones as I have the ananda nanos :( I’m surprised you don’t have that profile as a lot of ppl are using them.

I wanted to follow up in case my private messages didn’t go through.

Regarding your idea of capturing sound from outdoor events, there are many festivals across Europe during the summer where you could potentially collaborate with organizers to record sound environments. I’m currently compiling a list of key festivals, and I’d be happy to share that information with you once it’s ready.

In addition to large festivals, I believe it would be valuable to capture smaller, more underground outdoor events to parallel Realphones’ existing small club/medium venue/large concert hall categories. These events can be harder to locate, but I’ll do my best to gather insights on them as well.

Would you also consider recording environments outside of the EU? Israel has a very well-developed underground outdoor scene, and I have many industry contacts there who might be open to collaboration. Let me know if that’s of interest, and I’d be happy to help facilitate connections.

Additionally, another idea could be to capture the acoustic environments of renowned producers’ studios of different EDM sub-genres. This could offer genre-specific reference environments for producers who want to fine-tune their mixes for different production styles. If you’re interested, I might be able to help connect you with some of these artists in the Psytrance genre. You could even consider offering these as expansion packs for different EDM genres.

How do I apply this curve to the anandas? Is this setting in realphones?

The in-house dSONIQ measurement profiles would be dealing with more than just EQ though right? It'd be adjusting phase and transient response and stuff like that, wouldn't it?

Question.... What does the "Hi quality" option (from the hamburger menu) affect? Is it a linear phase knob or something else?

If i'm just using Realphones for custom headphones correction with no ambience/modelling (just EQ) does it matter if Hi Quality is set to on or off? I'm not sure if i can hear a difference or not

In the latest update, we’ve focused on improving the CPU-saving mode (Hi Quality off).

By default, Realphones uses all the processing tools we've developed to make the emulation as realistic as possible. For example, when you adjust the virtual speaker angle to less than 90 degrees, comb filtering occurs, helping to create a more accurate spatial image — the same effect happens when listening to real speakers. Some users may find the comb filtering too pronounced or the standard 60-degree angle too narrow. If the sound seems too harsh or narrow when setting the angle below 90 degrees, try setting it to 90 degrees for a cleaner, more neutral sound.

But what if you want to position the virtual sound sources closer than 90 degrees without the comb filtering? Just uncheck the "Hi Quality" option in the settings menu. This activates the CPU-saving mode, which shortens the convolution tail and reduces the number of active filters. As a result, the comb filtering disappears, and the sound becomes smoother and softer, though less realistic.

In addition to removing comb filtering, the CPU-saving mode disables fine resonance correction and smooths out the overall correction curve. According to user feedback, this has helped cut CPU load in half. We've worked hard to make sure that this mode minimally impacts the sound, but since it reduces the amount of processing, fewer sonic details are emulated.

In short, the CPU-saving mode lowers the processing load by simplifying the emulation, which results in less coloration and fewer sound modifications. For some users, this can make working with headphones more comfortable.

Right, so if i'm not using the Ambience or the HRTF/Angle stuff (just EQ correction) then the Hi Quality setting has no advantage to me, right? Might as well have it off.

Or does it affect the Correction EQ in some way?

Have you had enough requests for the Sony closed back MDR-M1? You already have the open back MDR-MV1.

At the moment, the number of requests for the M1 is more than three times lower compared to the MV-1.
Currently, the speed of adding new models has slowed down, as we are in the R&D phase.

We hope to speed up the process once this phase is complete, but for now, there’s no ETA
