Soyuz 017 FET Is my main microphone and I was on the hunt for a high-end alternative that I could switch in & out for a slightly different voicing if the record required. The SA800G has filled that role well and truly!
Seems as though this will be my #1 for more clarity / rap-focused recordings and the 017 will jump back in for the more melodic tracks..
I'm currently using it into a Chandler REDD47 > RS124 w superfuse > MEQP1A+ | Until my 312+, SA1B & SA76+ arrive! Josh + team killing it!
How long did yours take to ship from final payment?
With that chain do you find yourself using the eq on the vlc much? I think that's where the magic lies in that unit. You can pretty much get what you want out of any mic. I couple my vlc with a KH87. I plan on grabbing a vne as soon as I part with something π
The EQ not too much mainly because I prefer to swap mics based on the needs of the track when recording. If I were to get a second VLC though I could see myself patching the pair in during a mix and really getting into the EQ there on a bus or something similar. The top end boost sounds great on that thing!
I was wondering why we had received quite a few new pre-orders on this unit the last couple of days. I now see why!
So the SA-800G uses the same capsule (with a different tension) and transformer as before. The circuit is also the same but the body has been upgraded, the power supply and connectors have also been upgraded. The mic sounds a little closer to our vintage Sony than the previous version (video coming soon) as I keep listening for new parts to capture the essence of this mic as close as I can, I believe it is now virtually identical. I spent quite a few years on it now, it's a full time job.
With regards to dates, our metal supplier (microphone body , power supply) has told us they will be ready next month which means I can have them in the lab during July-August. I placed this order almost 12 months ago and it has taken this long to manufacture due to lockdowns and ongoing supply chain issues. All the boards are finished and capsules in place so we will start shipping them as soon as I get them.
I believe we have about 25 spots left and it will be place out of stock for another year or so.
I hope this information helps.
Thanks a lot
Josh
I preordered a Stam SA800G in 2025 but I see it takes a lot to get your hands on so I asked for a refund via mail and will be going for a Golden Age. Does anyone know how long it takes for the money back? Talking about $2290.
For those that received the 20 working days until shipment email, with Stam, that doesnβt actually mean they will ship within 20 working days correct?
I received an email 2 months ago saying that it would ship within 20 working days. So I wanted to make sure that itβs been the experience of others that the email doesnβt really mean much and that I just have to be patient.

99% of the time it does. I am shipping more next week (the last ones)
There are exceptions if a part fails or something "fun" happens during QC.. then it might be a few more weeks
