Is there any way to upgrade, or do I have to buy it all again?

I upgraded 3 plugins from v6 to v7 for 29$ each one....

Disappointed they are charging so much for upgrades from v6 to v7... V6 is plagued with a variety of issues that should have been fixed as part of normal upkeep, including egregiously sluggish gui loading . A flat max fee of $100 for all plugs you own to upgrade to v7 would seem more reasonable to me...

As much as I like mcdsp, competition is fierce these days, companies like Softube, among others, have upgraded their GUIs, added new features etc at no cost.

I'm not against paying towards upgrades but with so many quality options on offer eg Fuse Audio where $29 will get you a new plugin & free updates, it's not very tempting to continue investing in the McEcosystem.

Upgrade price from V6 to V7 29 USD per plugin and mostly GUI updates and Apple Silicon support in my case. They even ask for money for the Echo plugin they recently gave out. Sorry I will pass. There are tons of other plugins that I can replace easily with McDSP. McDSP has been removed from my Plugin Arsenal. Goodbye McDSP...

All my McDSP (except the recent EC-300) are V5 because I am using ProTools and the V6 update really only gave VST the same code as AAX so there was no need. Now they want $49 EACH ($29 for EC-300). Hard pass. I'll probably wait til Black Friday and just re-buy Futzbox when it's $29 (I use it for post).

I actually don't mind paying for upgrades if they are substantial (presets mean nothing) but the fact they don't cap it or give you a discount for multiple plugins being upgraded (or even a slight discount over the people who still have V4 which I paid to upgrade to V5 so the V7 upgrade is even worse for me) is not something I'm willing to support. Sorry Collin, times have changed.

I have the Classic and Retro packs, the ML4000, the 6050, and I bought the EC-300 - $245 for the V7 upgrades.

I just upgraded Futzbox to v7 and I will do the same for the EC-300 which they gave away for free and it's only fair to pay for that upgrade, in my opinion.

MAYBE when I upgrade my system in a few years I'll get futzbox again if I haven't found anything better when the time comes. All of the other plugins are easily replaceable so I'll stop using them today.

I really don't get companies where it sometimes makes more sense to buy a new license than upgrade

Just downloaded a V7 "demo" of the Channel G plugin I've owned for the past three years in V6 format. Sadly, though I like the look of the new GUIs, they are just as slow to load on OSX in Reaper and Logic over here as V6, and the actual graphics of knob turning and button pressing are in fact slower than V6. Contrast with DMG Trackcomp or Equillibrium, both of which snap open in an instant, while McDP stuff takes a good 2 seconds from button press to render the GUI. Might not seem like a lot, but in the heat of a mix it makes a major difference... I wonder the extent to which Ilok can be blamed for this. Perhaps more reason to get off the iLok train over here....

EDIT: Can't be iLok, because Metric Halo's iLok based Channelstrip is lightning fast opening and closing over here. Guess it's just the coding from the developer.

So basically for existing users, they’re asking a minimum of $29 to upgrade *each plugin* for new M1 versions with updated graphics, new presets, an added RTA for certain plugins, and a couple of other added features, most of which I assume are quite useful.

I have much respect for McDSP; I love their plugins. But I’m scratching my head here for 2 reasons.

1. The upgrade fee -$29 isn’t a huge ask for 1 or 2 plugins, but as others have already rightly pointed out, this adds up really fast - especially to loyal customers who own many of their plugins. It’s those loyal customers who shoulder the highest cost. This doesn’t make sense.

2. There are still unresolved bugs in the new versions. Whether or not McDSP should even charge an upgrade fee at all is a worthy discussion to be had, but putting that aside, I’m surprised/ confused to see some bugs still evident in the new versions. For example, the OSX AAX Native ML4000’s threshold linking feature stopped working in version 6. I logged a support request back in November and they explained that they were aware of the issue but couldn’t provide an ETA when it would be resolved. Fast fwd to V7, the threshold linking feature is not only still unfixed, it has completely disappeared from the GUI! OK…

I’m going to pay the upgrade fee anyway because I want to support McDSP and still find some of their plugins indispensable. But I definitely understand the frustration many have voiced here. Hope the good folks at McDSP are listening!

Is McDSP feeling ok? This was the exact thing that Waves got berated for years ago and still up until a little while ago with the WUP thing... but now in 2022 when competition is fierce they wanna charge more for an update than the plugin will probably cost next Black Friday??? lol

$380 upgrade here, which ain't gonna happen. I'm struggling to earn that much in a month at the moment ffs. And the lack of a grace period for recent purchases is the icing on the cake.

Thank you all for the information, and confirmation that it's a per plugin upgrade. Overall, they are fine plugins, but I have suffered from PAS (Plugin Acquisition Syndrome) for many months now, so even upgrading the two I have is a pass. I assume v6 will continue to work for a while...

After all these years Filterbank has a polarity switch again. It's even listed as a new feature. I still think the original Filterbank gui with the sliders made the most sense in a DAW.

Agreed. I paid for the v7 upgrade of EC-300.

However, there's no way I'm going to give any more money to McDSP as long as this is the policy. I just lost all trust in them with these moves, literally abusing the Mac M1 platform to sort of force paid updates that don't really give anything of value to the users who have many of their plugins. That kind of tactic leaves a really sour taste and killed all my interest in the company going forward.

Glad I don’t have to jump off this bandwagon, because I never got onboard. Had my eyes on that APB series but I’m gonna think twice about that now.

Yes, I'm with you on that one. I wouldn't pay either if I had to upgrade 5 or more plug-ins. It's insane what they're asking for. Maybe ask for a max fee of $100 if the user is upgrading many plug-ins but $29 each? That's crazy business.

I am not paying so much for the upgrades. It's ridiculous. I am open to pay something to upgrade (while most vendors are doing upgrades for their plugins absolutely free) but those prices are crazy. I haven't even paid so much for the full license what the upgrade cost. McDSP need to change their policy about this. Not customer friendly.

as much as i love my mcdsp, as much as i hate my freezing ml4000 gui every time i want to tweak in realtime. i have plugins stuck in v5 v6 because mcdsp doesnt provide individualized upgrade options like other companies do. i also have to say, there are after asking customized upgrade paths, but its a hassle to always seek the personal approach when it really should be an automatic one, offered by their website. say you own 4 v5 and 5 v6 plugins, those native those hd, its a mess, we give you a special offer of say 150 usd to get them all to v7. that, would be acceptable. please mcdsp we love you so much, please dont push your awsome code out of the competition with those ridiculous upgrade options. and not, subscriptions are not gonna happen here. especially in inflation, you have to cut your subscriptions close to 0.
