i have shot most of Jeroeme's sp? plugins out over the years and, though they have yet to knock anything from its perch, until this one,, he has made huge strides in dsp, workflow, and aesthetics, while keeping his prices humbly low and copy-protection easily manageable

if this plug became part of a larger, general-purpose metering tool I would definitely buy a license (and retire my workhorse voxengo span, like goniometer has now retired correlimeter -- Aleksy's gestalt is top-drawer as well, but his guis are all gpu-hogs on my intel macs)


edit: oops, to your question, I just realized the v4 eq has been re-built and now has dynamic functionality -- i have been using crave for static eq and nova ge for dynamic eq, but this looks like the best of both worlds and i will definitely dig into the sound -- deep but intuitive, butter smooth control, and gorgeous! instant schwing -- uh hum -- attention, gml!

I was LITERALLY just searching the internet for an imaging meter last night….nice!

This has the potential to retire a couple of my metering plugins.

Not quite sure about the correlation meter by frequency on the left of the plugin. Its readout suggests that some of my tracks have phasing issues (curve spiking in the negative zone) whereas 2BC Multicorr and Hofa show no problems at all.

I do wish people would make L-R phase spectrum meters (other than motu) so you can get a feel for whether left is ahead of or behind right, rather than just ‘is correlated or not’ - helps a tonne setting tape head azimuth to programme material when you don’t have tones..

Well Jeroen frequently implements user requests into plugin updates so you might wanna reach out to him. For example, my idea for a new color theme was recently implemented in EQ4.

Nice freebie, but more interesting are the updates of other plugins coming with this release. TBEQ4 is really, really great and just got way better (GUI related).

Anyone tried their Compressor v4? Is it any good?

I think it is, just demo it, there's barely any restriction on the demos. I have most of the stuff and have for years, all no brainers to me. I use them quite a lot, despite having MANY costly alternatives. Anyway, Jeroen is not really your typical plugin developer I think, being an accomplished audio scientist I'd like to think he knows his stuff pretty well.

These are the changes to EQ4 in the latest release

I got the multiband one, which does sat and you can use single band, couldn't be happier.
Clean, fast workflow and very low on CPU so Compressor 4 is probably great also.

It's alright for me. I really like having the pan meter with it.

Just got into their stuff. Tried legacy stuff when they made it free some time ago - loved the sound so much! GUI were ugly back then, so ditched them. But sympathy lasted, so a week ago I bought EQ4 and uninstalled every other I had except TDR ones. Killer thing! Got everything you might need within an EQ.
That's a great freeby as well, and to appreciate it I'll be buying MBC soon, since I don't have any multibands now after leaving McDSP for being jerks.

I could live with TDR and ToneBoosters alone I guess - if I only knew when started buying plugins...

Toneboosters EQ is amazing.
Bought it when the v4 was out, cause the FabFilter was too expensive.
Ditched all other EQs and use it for everything.
Surgical EQing, broad balancing, dynamic compression or upward expansion, tilting...
It's awesome.
If MBC is a fraction this good, I'm in.

As for the GonioMeter, will try it tomorrow.

You are right, EQ is very good and flexible plugin for its price.

Finally got around to giving this a try, and I'm finding it more useful than I expected.

In particular, the Correlation By Frequency chart is useful. I'm finding it interesting running it on commercial reference tracks to see their slope of stereo width. Turns out not every commercial track has the same slope, and I've been surprised to find some tracks don't abide by the "keep your bass mono" rule. If they decided to add features, it'd be good to analyze a few reference tracks to establish a guideline range on the chart.

On the track that I was working on, it showed that I really could expand the stereo width much more, and also identified a weird frequency where the correlation was going negative.

The screenshots on the website don't do it justice, it's much clearer and more precise in actual use.

Posting this to give this some extra exposure, because it seems like it might have gone under the radar. I think it's worth a second look.

Some time ago. It’s good. TBH, I was preferring the very first iteration of v4 that had slightly different set of controls.

As usual, very good UI that gives clear indication of what’s going on (for those after that kind of stuff) and versatile.

To me it’s always been more a “bus” act than a track act (for whatever reason the CPU was noticeable — without being crazy, just comparing to other “clean” compressors; e.g., I think it was lower than Kotelnikov but way higher than say Pro-C2).

I gradually stopped using TB until I have time to pinpoint a fairly annoying bug that makes them crash on my system. I suppose it’s unique and not something that affect other users (at least, I have seen nobody mentioning it). Just explaining why I am not using them more for the time being.

If you are after a compressor, also consider their wonderful MBC. Cv4 has “more options” for a single band, but MBC can be used with a single band fairly easily and is *also* good set like that (and of course it has a crazy high number of bands available — this one is very low CPU). So demo both (unless you have no use for MB).

Then again, TB has a very clear policy with prices (WYSIWYG) and they are extremely wallet friendly, so you might be tempted to get both :P

It's a complete disregard for mono or vinyl playback. So in stereo, these modern producers are just going with what sounds good, especially on headphones. Using stereo wideners and or other stereo effects on bass etc, that's more times out of ten where the negative phase comes from.
