Acustica & Studio DMI present LIFT

I'm new to the Acustica plugs, and would really appreciate if a more experienced user could chime in here. My understanding is Acustica plugins in general are very sensitive to the input gain, and are designed to have a sweet spot at -18 (or 0 on the VU meter).

Diamond Lift must have been designed to be run much hotter though, right? Otherwise you won't get the benefit of the clipper if you're at -18.

Thanks in advance for any advice about ideal levels for this bad boy.

I know you're quite busy, but if you have time I would love to hear if you have ever had any issues with plug in delay compensation while doing parallel processing in Studio One. The smearing used to drive me nuts in Ableton Live. Hopefully it's much better implemented in Studio One.

Nebula technology simply uses proper analogue gain stagin most of the time due to it sampling hardware. So -18dbfs on your DAW is actually 0dbu in hardware, thus we suggest inputting it at -18dbfs, then drive the plugin from within..... but every rule can be broken, always trust your ears and avoid the digital chirp!

Thanks for the info Will. I'll try driving Lift from within the plugin to reach enough volume for the clipper to work then. Lift really seems like one of those strategic plugins that can take purely in the box mixes to another level when used properly.

What are your other favorite Acustica plugins by the way? I have Lift and Crimson (was absolutely shocked when comparing Crimson to the VSM-3 plugin), was thinking of getting Lime next.

Nebula is still my favorite AA plugin, the huge amount of different libraries and variety make it my #1 goto plugin over everything today. Everything Acustica Audio starts with Nebula for me.

After that I love Ebony for snare work, I've yet to find anything that can do snares better, not to mention it takes me 30 seconds to be happy with a snare...... pretty amazing plugin to me and I don't think it's appreciated enough. There is no other single plugin that can do what Ebony does making it my most consistently used Acqua.

I love Lemon as a delay but it's so deep I'm still discovering it, I use it more every day.

Ruby and Amber combine to make a killer EQ combo but IMHO Ruby and Azure are destined to be the most powerful EQ combo in a computer today, the more I use them together the happier I become.

For a channel strip I find Sand, Gold, Lime and Pink get used more by me today depending on what I'm going for. Lime C comp is sweet, check it when you demo Lime.

Diamond is addictive but a little goes along way, just like lift.

I'm still learning Crimson but it can get a bit bright for my taste and I've discovered using a Nebula LP filter after really brings the tone into a more usable range for my needs.

Thinking of picking this up on sale. Anyone still using it that has some feedback on how well it's held up?

At first it hadn’t impress me too much and I thought it was a wrong move to purchase it. I came back last month to give it one more chance and finally I came to the conclusion that this is a must have for finishing a mix - mastering.
The key here is the subtlety. It gives to the material a very nice color while a careful use of the compressor and clipper can improve the song in a way that you end up with a sense that the song has been mastered in a great mastering studio.
Everything is subjective though

Just when I thought I've got too many acusticas in my folder. Lift 2 comes on sale. Now got to fit I some demo time to see how this works and if it can bring anything fresh to the workspace
Must say DMGAudio Limitless has been one of my go to on the master chain.

Just tried out Lift on a track that I had already mastered and sent off for release recently. Wishing I could now time travel back two weeks and put Lift on the version that got released. Will pick it up for my next tracks though.

Just tried lift. The clipping is Soundings really terrible. Even the tiniest. I’m getting a clicky distorted sound tht sounds nothing like a clipper. The shelves sound incredible. I’m on Logic Pro

I just love the clipping of lift. What is the source material your routing in Lift?

Drums. There’s a lot of white noise. I can only move the clipper to nine o’clock nything over it sounds distorted. Maybe there’s something wrong with the Trial version ?

That sounds indeed unusual in my experience.

I am using lift 2 for some time now with great satisfaction! And I mastered some songs with it. But yesterday I had a song where lift just doesn't work. And then in particular the clipper.

Is there an easy explanation for this? So that I can take this into account. And I can take measures to prevent this. Or is it just better to use other options in this situation? As an alternative I used Sir Clipper and L2 limiter and that worked fine.

If we knew why a processor [plugin, hardware] works on a Track, and then, not on another ... and then to resolve so to always work ... we wouldn't need so many 'similar' tools.

ex: I've the Coral BAX-eq and the Dangerous BAX-eq. Both are very similar to each other, yet they do have some differences.

And because ... sometimes I go Coral ... another time Dangerous.
