I own 1x iCon QCon Pro G2 and 1x iCon QCon EX G2 extender unit since the beginning of 2020. They are both connected to my Mac Mini from 2012 (Mojave) via the iCon OneHub USB hub.

Everything works fine, but the faders make quite a lot of noise. Is this normal behaviour? (See video below) and is this also the case with other controllers such as the SSL Nucleus, UF8, Behringer, Mackie MCU Pro etc?

Update the firmware. Mine did the same thing

Just updated both units to the latest firmware v.1.1.1. No difference unfortunately...

This is quite a relevant question.
Does anyone knows about a place/study where to find proper measures, comparisons or reviews that test this important feature for control surfaces?

I’ve used the Mackie MCU, iCon Pro, and Platform M, and Behringer XTouch controllers and the only one that didn’t/hasn’t do/done that is the Behringer. Had it plus an extender about 4 years now.

Thanks. Ok so the Behringer X-Touch faders are the quietest from this list? Any idea how that is with the Nucleus and UF8?

If I change the mixer layout to "Tracks" in Logic X 10.5.1 and select, for example, only "Audio" there, the QCon Pro G2 continues to display all tracks. The mixer layout "Single" and "All" works as it should.

In Cubase 11 the QCon G2 does respond to the different Mixer views. But in Logic it doesn't. Both DAW are configured as Mackie Control. I have the G2 + Extender unit.

Just a note you might be well aware of: the Nucleus is discontinued.
I would be interested to know about the UF8 though.

Is there definitely not going to be another new version of the Nucleus? As myself and some others having been wondering this over in the other SSL threads. If so where did you hear this?

The Nucleus 1 and 2 are indeed no longer available but I too am hoping for a Nucleus 3. The UF8 is not a worthy successor imo. And I don't just mean the price but also in terms of design and parts used. I find that more of a downgrade tbh

I thought I read on the SSL website that the UC1+UF8 were the modular evolution of the Nucleus, but I went back to look for this and I couldn't find it, so it might be I made this up in my mind linking the fact that the Nucleus is no longer available and these have just been launched. Actually, on the SSL website the Nucleus2 looks as if it is still current, there is even a "buy" button although all the links it points to are either dead or stating "not available".
So I might be wrong and there might be a Nucleus3 at some point, although I still find it more likely that my assumption above was correct.

This is interesting: could you please elaborate? Design-wise, I find the modularity of the UC1+UF8 solution much more convenient than the fixed 16-fader design of the Nucleus (hopefully they will launch a "UF8 extender at some point to avoid replicating the transport section uselessly), but I'm curious to learn about any downsides you see in this solution compared to the Nucleus. Thanks!

I've seen quite a few reviews of the UF8 by now and there are a few things I just don't understand..

For example, the location of the solo/cut/select buttons. They are so close to the fader that I've already seen a few videos where the user accidentally touched the fader.

I still think that the Nucleus cannot be compared to the UF8. UF8 is more "pro-sumer" and Nucleus more pro (and of course 16 faders, transport section and the same parts as the high-end consoles).

Everyone is allowed to express their own opinion and I respect that. However, I have had a Nucleus 1 for years and the quality of the knobs and faders are genuinely much better than the UF8, which I have also tried.

I secretly hope that SSL will release the Nucleus 3 which is recognized in 360. There is now quite a gap between the UF8 and Nucleus 1/2.

A Nucleus 3 without mic pre and monitoring features would be nice. It does seem that the UF8 buttons are small and less quality feeling than the Nucleus 1 and 2.

This controller has a much better Expander than SSL which just has you put the same controller twice. I get it you can have transport controls dedicated to the top buttons on the first unit and on the 2nd have it be something else. So this is a good thing but I wonder how the quality of the unit is to the Pro G2.
