This is a forum. It's a discussion. So expressing a doubt that something is good enough (not even an assertion) is OK. It's not unfriendly. All of this discussion is friendly, at least on my part.
I have worked with UA's (hardware) tube preamps in the past and they always left a lot to be desired. Again this is just my personal opinion. Maybe the whole sonic result of the Unison is beyond that. It would then hurt the whole tube line because it would render them obsolete.
It does not really matter HOW Unison works. All that matters is the result.
As far as the converter part of Apollo, I have only read industry magazine reviews written by people I respect very much and even know personally.
Those reviews lean towards describing Apollo as darker and a bit less transparent than Lynx Aurora (which is what I use) and Apogee Symphony.
But still, I'm looking forward to an opportunity to hear one and be debunked in my (by now only an) assumption.
