Very well! iD22 is our benchmark interface & converter and certainly well acclaimed. We worked hard to make iD14 sound as close as possible... Lots of opamp swapping and auditioning to get the baby brother to grow up and knock iD22 on the nose!
I would say they sound a bit different in the converters - if I said they were the same, then I'd be lying...as they use a slightly different chipset. But they are on a par and of the same family. Which means we're very proud of iD14 because it's got the same mic pres, JFET D.I and headphone amp as iD22 and the converters punch well next to the flagship iD22.
iD22 has micpre inserts for outboard, slightly higher A-D spec and extra outputs including ADAT outs too, plus more function keys in the monitor controller section.
iD14 has ADAT in, bus power, the new ScrollControl (well done Steve Flower!!) and an even more incredible price point.
In the end, after much pain - we decided that iD14 would need to use the 12VDC adapter for 48V Phantom Power because otherwise we'd have to compromise the audio performance to meet the USB spec for power consumption. Sonics rule and your mics will thank you, but otherwise it's fully bus powered and more portable than iD22.
