The White Grand is great!

The more levels of velocity samples, the more realistic the sound (a piano is infinite), regardless of how many levels of acoustic "volume" (f/p) a composition requires. Unless you are saying something I am not understanding?

I have the original White Grand which I bought more than 10 years ago now. Have you had the opportunity to test it against more modern well regarded samples? How would you say it stands these days amongst the leaders?

I’ve tried most if not all the grands and White is still my favorite. I now have the White Grand MK II which is nice since you can blend the 2 Mics and pedal release sounds as well as key release noise etc.

Funny, I hadn't thought about SampleTekk in years and somehow presumed that development had ended, but not so - at all.

There are 2 newer libraries that sound utterly convincing in the demos, 7CG Mk II and Black Grand MkII. Have you guys tried those?

One question, in the audio demos on their site I hear a lot of clicking sounds, presumably these being hammer noises. Is it possible to adjust/reduce the volume of those sounds?

I only like the GOOD stuff! AND... you even said that White fits my style!

This topic has come around again, eh? Apparently I posted in it at some point, though it must have been years ago.

Well, at this point in my ever-fluctuating piano roundup, I've actually recently been experimenting with using two pianos layered up...NI The Grandeur and VI Labs True Keys: Italian.

I've tried layering pianos before many years ago, but I think this is the first time I found the resulting sound actually working rather well in the mix. Well, after a fair bit of processing on both sounds (mostly the usual low-mid scooping and frequency-specific compression on the sometimes bitey 1.5kHz to 2.5kHz area). The Grandeur sounds pretty good on its own, but the VI Labs Italian sort of fills in a different space The Grandeur doesn't and makes the overall sound more expansive.

I have at times thought it would be nice to take the load of these big piano libraries off my computer by getting something like a Montage or a Kronos or even a Nord. But I'm really concerned I'd spend the money and end up not liking the pianos on the hardware as well as what I already have in software. I've bought several piano libraries over the years and most of them just didn't work out for me, so I guess the idea that I could get a sample-driven hardware instrument and end up not really loving any of its pianos might be a valid concern.

Here's a demo I just made featuring the White Grand and TVBO. The first one is White and the 2nd one is TVBO.

I like them both. I think the White isn't as "Tiny" as TVBO and has a nicer tone. TVBO has more layers, but you decide which one you like!

Correction... I mean I NOW have the WG2 Mk II where you can blend the White Sister Grand and White together! The difference is the Sister used different mics than the White so now you can adjust your tone a bit more.

I LOVE Keepitsimple's CD when yhe used the Kronos! (The German Grand I believe) I have the Montage. I love it for it's action and as a controller (8 assignable knobs), but the pianos I wouldn't recommend.

That's the one and YES, you can adjust the key noise and peal noise to tastes (I believe)

Yep! Just read the specs!

But personally, I would go for TVBO Studio Grand if you want a C7. WG2 MkII is still my fav, but the TVBO is the same piano as 7CG MkII except you have 2 mic samples that you can blend together.

Would you mind posting a screenshot of the 7CG MkII in Kontakt? There is nothing available on the Sampletekk site. It would be nice to see which parameters are available.

What is the difference between the TBO MkII and the 7CG MkII..? Different mics? The TBO MkII seems to sound a bit darker, more mellow and more realistic.

If you get TVBO, you get BOTH pianos in one!

That's my playing. And I used a 3rd party verb.

But I just did a quick deno for you showing the WG2 MkII using only it's verb with no eq. The 2nd part of the demo is WG2 MkII using a BBE and some EQ with a 3rd party verb.

See how the 2nd one cuts more and the 1st one is more mellow? So you can tweak the WG2 MkII to your taste!

Of course I like it inbetween. I also had a touch of stereo width to the 2nd demo in Reaper.
